The closing highlights of the Olymic artistic gymnastics competitions traditionally take place on Sunday (Aug. 22nd) and Monday (Aug. 23rd).

On Sunday the men compete in Athen's Olympic Hall on floor, pommel horse and rings,

Three judges suspended...
Athens, 20-Aug: -- The F.I.G. pronounced on it's website, that after the Artistic Gymnastics Men’s All-Around Final, the Chef de Mission of the Korean Delegation to the Athens 2004 Olympic Games claimed, that the Korean Gymnast Yang Tae Young (Start Number 185) received the wrong start value on Parallel Bars. The gymnast was given a start value of 9.9, instead of a 10. This judges’ error is confirmed by the FIG.

After she took the lead in the 3rd rotation, the best gymnast from the qualification Carly Patterson (USA) in the end was celebrated as the new Olympic Champion in the women’s all-around. With the score of 38.387 she secured her victory with 0.176 points in front of Svetlana Chorkina (RUS) who was very happy about the all-around silver medal in her third Olympic Games.

Olympic gymnastics king - Hamm is successor of Nemov
In an exciting Olympic all-around final with great performances but also dramatic falls of various favourites in the end World Champion Paul Hamm (USA) took the lead with the score of 57.837 despite of a fall on vault.

He overtook Korea’s KIM, Dae Eun who presented a faultless all-around (57.811) and his team mate Yang, Tae Young (57.648).

Being the clearly best team today evening the Romanian women's artistic gymnastics team defended their Olympic gold medal from Sydney with the score of 114.283. This is their 3rd Olympic team title after Los Angeles 1984 and Sydney 2000.
Their strongest competitor USA won the silver medal with the score of 113.584.
Getting stronger through the course of the competition Russia secured themselves the Olympic bronze medal with the score of 112.235….
