Chusovitina's Son Diagnosed With Leukemia
The young son of 2001 World silver medalist Oksana
Chusovitina has been diagnosed with leukemia.
Chusovitina, a three-time Olympian from Uzbekistan, has
earned admiration in the worldwide gymnastics community
for her career longevity. Chusovitina's husband of five
years, Bakhodir Kurpanov, is a top wrestler in
Uzbekistan. Their son, Alisher, was born on
November 18, 1999.

and his father are in Germany with Oksana now,"
a team spokesperson told IG. "He is supposed
to go into an experimental treatment program
last Friday, but they do not have the money
to pay for it. |

They are
trying to get a grant to pay for the treatment."
In the past
three weeks, Chusovitina, 27, has won medals in both the
Asian Games in Pusan and the French International in
Paris. In Paris, an official announcement was made to all
the participating federations with a plea for help.
Leukemia is
a cancer that originates in the bone marrow and blood.
Treatments for the disease include chemotherapy and stem
cell transplants.
The
team spokesperson said the U.S.-based fan club of the team
is currently trying to raise funds to help pay for

Tschusowitina's Sohn Leukämie diagnostiziert
Beim Sohn der Vize-Weltmeisterin von Gent Oksana
Tschusowitina (Usbekistan) ist Leukämieerkrankung
festgestellt worden.
Die dreimalige Olympia-Teilnehmerin erntet derzeit
weltweit Bewunderung ob ihrer ungewöhnlich langen
Karriere im internationalen Spitzenbereich. Ihr Gatte Bachodir
Kurpanow, mit dem sie seit 5 Jahren verheiratet ist,
ist ein Spitzen-Ringer in Usbekistan. Ihr gemeinsamer Sohn
Alisher wurde am 18. November 1999 geboren.
"Alisher und ihr Vater weilen momentan in
Deutschland", meldete International Gymnast.
Nach GYMmedia-Recherche hat sich in Köln sofort der
Partnerverein Turn-Team TOYOTA Köln um die Familie
gekümmert. Momentan erfolgen die ersten Schritte der
Behandlung bereits in einem Kölner Krankenhaus,
koordiniert von Prof. Peter Brüggemann.
Diese bedarf eines großen finanziellen Aufwandes, der zur
Zeit nicht vorhanden ist.
Leukämie ist bekanntlich eine heimtückische Krebsart und
befällt das Blut und das Knochenmark und muss durch
aufwendige Chemotherapie und Zelltransplantationen und sofort
behandelt werden.
Oksana Tschusowitina, die in wenigen Wochen 27 Jahre alt
wird, kam soeben erfolgreich von den Asienspielen zurück
und war auch am letzten Wochenende erfolgreich beim
Turnier "France Telecom" in Paris und weilt
momentan beim Grandprix/Weltcup in Glasgow.
Von überall wird ein Appell an alle teilnehmenden
Turn-Verbände gerichtet, um entsprechende Hilfe
für den kranken Sohn.
Mutti Oksana wird Anfang der Woche nach dem Weltcup in
Glasgow wieder in Köln bei ihrem Sohn erwartet
