 Nomination 2001: Laureus World Sports Awards

Nadia Comaneci , the 1976 Olympic all-around champion and other World Sports Academy Founder Members on Tuesday in Berlin announced nominees for the 2001 Laureus World Sports Awards.
Comaneci is the only gymnast among the WSA's Founder Members. Other members include Boris Becker, Dawn Fraser, Michael Jordan, Mark Spitz, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Katarina Witt, Martina Navratilova, Sugar Ray Leonard and Pele and from now on Franz Beckenbauer, too.

Comaneci is one of 39 sports stars who volunteer to serve on the WSA's Founder Members panel. She and the other members will vote for the World Sportsman of the Year, World Sportswoman of the Year, World Team of the Year and others. No gymnasts are among this year's nominees. The awards will be presented May 22 in Monaco.
