Short conclusions after the World Championships
... by coaching expert Dieter Hofmann (SUI, Liestal), who was on site in Aarhus for GYMmedia the whole time from the podium training until the end of the finals. He analysed the first World Championships which took place with the new "Code de Pointage":

One of Germany’s best all-arounders didn’t get his chance to compete in the WCh’s final!
On the official result- list of the men’s all-around final in Aarhus only 23 instead of 24 names can be found.
Two days before, that means in time, the federation from South Korea informed the organising committee that their athlete was injured and couldn’t compete in the final – However, after that nothing happened:
Neither the FIG, in this case the president of the men’s TC Adrian STOICA nor the gymnasts which were substitutes for the all-around final were informed.
Only when already the 3rd rotation of the all-around was running the president of the German gymnastics federation Rainer Brechtken received an apology letter…

A Chinese river of gold medals flows towards Bejing...!
With the second part of the apparatus finals the artistic gymnastics World Championships finished this Saturday:
Marian DRAGULESCU (ROM) defended his title on vault, Dmitri KASPIAROVICH (BLR) took silver and Fabian HAMBUECHEN GER) gripped bronze...! All-around champion YANG, Wei won at parallel bars the 7th and CHENG, Fei at women’s floor exercise the 8th gold medal for China!
The Australien high bar artist Philippe RIZZO got the first WCh gold medal ever for his country!
Irina KRASNIANSKA from Ukraine became World Champion on beam ahead of Sandra IZBASA (ROM) and Elyse HOPFNER-HIBBS (CAN)....

 China wins 3 Gold and Great Britain jubilates about first Title...


The very first British gymnastics world champion in history: Beth TWEDDLE

 
... Beth TWEDDLE wins on bars!!
After two times bronze medal at the last worlds now the British champion Elisabeth TWEDDLE is the World Champion finally!!
On second place came Nastia LIUKIN (USA) and on third the all-around champion Vanessa FERRARI from Italy.
The golden harvest of Chinese gymnastics is going on
CHENG, Fei on women's vault and on men's side XIAO, Qin on pommelhorse and CHENG, Yibing on rings won the altogether sixth gold medal for China before the tomorrow's last final day.
Romanian's Marian DRAGULESCU beats the titleholder Diego HYPOLITO from Brazil....
The former Usbekian and now New-German Oksana TSCHUSOWITINA won bronze on vault, behind Alicie SACRAMONE (USA)....

 WCh: Women's All-around: The new Gymnastics Queen is an Italian!


Vanessa FERRARI won the very first all-around medal for Italy, and it's a Golden!

 
Today evening the Women's all-around decision of the 29th World Championships took place in the "Atletion" Arena of Aarhus Denmark.
After a crash at the last apparatus (vault) the leading Chinese PANG, Pan Pan fall down on six place, but her strongest rival, Vanessa FERRARI won gold with a top performance at the floor (61,025).
After a hard fight Jana BIEGER from USA rescued the honour of the American gymnastics nation, winning the silver medal, in front of the young Rumanian Sandra IZBASA
Chellsie Memmel - best after qualification - cancelled her start today, because a shoulder injury.

Daria JOURA contacted the worlds best with a 5th rank.
The "new German" Oksana Tschusowitina (31) came on 9th place...!!

 YANG, Wei won the third Gold Medal for Olympic Host China...

Chinese Golden Hattrick... The Chinese All-around vice champion of Melbourne, Yang Wei won the gold medal of the 2006 all-around decision of the 39th World Championships in Aarhus.

With a score of 94,400 points he leads in front of titleholder Hiroyuki TOMITA from Japan (93,175), followed by the 19 years old German youngster Fabian Hambuechen (92,975), who won the third all-around medal of a German gymnast ain history, after Sylvio Kroll (1985) and Andreas Wecker (1993).
The second Chinese CHENG, Yibing, after 5 rotation on second place came on fourth.
Best Russian was Maxim DEVIATOVSKI on fifth place, followed by the second Japanese Takuya NAKASE ....

 Chinese Women win the first Team gold in History!


... Chinese Operation 'Olympic Gold' has start!

 
The Golden Dream of US Team was over... surprisingly!

A very strong CHINESE TEAM (182.200 ) managed to beat the USA (181.350) who were the great favorite for this final, after a very strong demonstration of their qualities at the qualification rounds...!
The Chinese team made a nearly perfect competition, while their directly conurrence from USA failed too much, crashed on vault (Bieger) and on uneven bars (Memmel) - too many mistakes to grip for gold....!

The bronze medal went to RUSSIA with the score of 177.325. Also the traditional top nation ROMANIA was not in a top form this evening and lost the fight for a medal after a crash on bars and some other instabilities....

 New Code of Scoring: The F.I.G. breath sighs of relief...

FIG president Bruno Grandi considered the introduction of new scoring system a success after it was questioned only five times in men's qualifications. FIG breathed sighs of relief after the new code of scoring system had been challenged only five times by Wednesday at Aarhus gymnastic worlds in Denmark....
Grandi said he was very satisfied that FIG had made the decision to introduce the new system with a score of technical difficulty and a score for performance....

 Titleholder China wins Team Gold again!


China's men won 1st Gold!

 
Tuesday evening in the venue "Atletion" of Aarhus took place the MEN'S TEAM FINAL 2006 of these 39th World Championships of Artistic Gymnastics.
In a big fight the Chinese Men's team started bad at the firts rotations, but step by step they raised up to a great and homogeneous team achievment on an absolutely high level, scored 277.775 points for Gold.
Russia also increased their performances, without big mistakes and got 275.400 points for the silver medal and won a medal again after a break of seven years.
The Bronze medal went to the Japanese men's team, because they made to much mistakes; so unfortunately their "handyman" TOMITA crashed on highbar after a Tkachev.... 274.800 only, but this bronze medal is surely a step only to a higher level of stability at next years worlds in Stuttgart 2007...
On the remaining ranks follow Romania, Belarus, Canada, Germany and Switzerland...

The second day of the women's qualification at the World Championships in Aarhus will finish soon.
After day one in the women's qualification, the US women's team currently is in the lead with sensational 8,5 points more than 2nd- ranked Romania. They really competed like a "dream time" in a different league on a far higher level than every other team.
At the beginning of day 2 Russia came on second place - but 8.5 point behind USA - followed by Australia and Brazil....
What is stilll possilble on Tuesday for the Chinese team, just fighting in the last group, yet....?

The men's qualification at the World Championships in artistic gymnastics in Aarhus is over.

Qualified for the team final which will take place on Tuesday are China, Japan and Russia as well as Romania, Canada, Germany, Switzerland and Belarus.

Tomorrow follows the first qualification day of the women.

Worlds Opening Ceremony in Aarhus

 
With a colorful ceremony the 39th WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS for men & 30th WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS for women were opened in the Danish city Aarhus.
For the first time a Scandinavian country is hosting world championships in artistic gymnastics.
550 athletes from 62 nations will fight for medals and titles from October 14 to 21.
The host federation, the "Danmarks Gymnastik Forbund" arranged a colourful show full of variety and with many elements of general gymnastics.

In the same order like in the qualification which will take place next week on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 16th & 17th, now on Thursday and Friday (Oct. 12th & 13th) took place the WOMEN’S PODIUM TRAINING.

Two strong teams could be seen already during the first group on Thursday with Italy and North Korea...

MEN’S PODIUM TRAINING finished
With the same starting order like during the qualifications on Saturday/ Sunday, Oct. 14th/15th now on Tuesday and Wednesday took place the MEN’S PODIUM TRAINING.

On Tuesday the first 25 teams in 5 subdivisions tested the podium, Wednesday followed the rest of the alltogether 42 men's teams. Quite a few interesting teams who also belong to the favorites could be seen already today with the USA, Corea, Russia, China and Japan....

39th World Championships in men’s artistic gymnastics – 30th World Championships in women’s artistic gymnastics in Aarhus
For the first time in the 103-year-old history of World Championships in artistic gymnastics the championships will take place in Danmark and it’s also the first time in Scandinavia overall.
Up to now in the nordic countries were held between 1959 (Copenhagen, men) and 1994 (Stockholm, women) 10 times the European Championships.
The hosts Danmark didn’t manage to win a medal at World Championships yet. However, gymnastics has nonetheless a large tradition in Danmark, especially recreational gymnastics.
