Having also won the
Team title for the first time earlier this year, and sweeping four
gold two silver and two bronze medals in the Apparatus
Finals in Guildford, the team led by head coach Amanda Kirby and
coaches Sarah Attwell, Judith Breakall and Martin Williams,
could hardly be challenged for possible Sensation of the
Year Award.
Guildford saw the toughest challenge for the titles ever and
increased number of participants at British Women’s
Championships.
The event was the last check-point for those gymnasts who will
compete at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in the end of July,
but it was also a strong beginning of hopefully great gymnastics
careers for
many younger talents. Never before has the Espoirs’ competition
been as impressive as this one in
Spectrum.
“The 9 years work of
Adrian Stan is obviously beginning to bear fruit. The gymnast’s
work was neat, accurate
and landings were stable. There were many release and catch
elements executed on Bars; some of the floor
work showed interesting choreography and a high level of tumbling
for this age group” |
“The work shown by the seniors, if maintained, should produce some excellent results at the Commonwealth
Games”, said Lyn Fairbrother, Chair of the Women’s Technical Committee and a member of the
UEG’s Technical Committee.
