Telsa, July 9 - 10
The US Classic
was the last qualifying event for the National Championships (July, the 26th to 29th,
St.Louis) and hence, the last chance for many to realize their Olympic dreams. America's
top gymnasts came to Tulsa Oklahoma to prove themselves. Vanessa Atler proved that she had
recovered from foot surgery, taking first place AA, followed by Morgan White and Alyssa
Beckerman. Kendell Beck took 4th while 96' Gold Medalists Amy Chow and Dominique Moceanu
placed 5th and 6th respectively. |

5 of the so
called Magnificent 7 of 1996 are attempting to make the team for this year's Olympics.
Shannon Miller and Dominque Dawes were injured and did not attend, while Jaycee Phelps
placed 14th.

Qualifiers to 2000 John Hancock
U.S. Gymnastics Championships Gymnasts were required to place in the top 12 with a score
of 34.500 or better in tonight's competition to advance to the 2000 John Hancock U.S.
Gymnastics Championships. The following six athletes advance: Kendell Beck (Parkettes),
Amy Chow (West Valley Gymnastics), Dominique Moceanu (Cincinnati Gymnastics),
Cory Fritzinger (Excalibur), Jaycie Phelps (Desert Devils), Ashley Kelly (Krafft).
The following athletes qualified to the 2000 John Hancock U.S.
Gymnastics Championships as a member of the 1999 World Championships Team or by placing in
the top 12 at the 2000 American Classic in Reno in February:
