Marian DRAGULESCU (ROU),wins his fourth title on floor and vault!
The three time Romanian floor world champion Marian DRAGULESCU is the first gymnast in history to achieve his fourth world championship title on the floor and vault and so advanced to become the most sucsessful gymnast of this world championship, rehabilitated himself for the failure experienced at the Olympic games and even beat the Olympic champion ZOU Kai on the floor .
All other wins in the mens went to four different Chinese gymnasts. On the pommelhorse as expected to ZHANG Hongtao, who beat European champion Krisztian BERKI, on the rings to YAN, Mingyong before oldie Jordan JOWTSCHEW (BUL), on the parallel bars to WANG, Guanyin and on the highbar to the Olympic winner ZOU, Kai, with sensational difficulty (!) before the also high class Dutch gymnast Epke ZONDERLAND .....

Gold goes to the favorite, beginners and hosts
The uneven bars Olympic winner from Peking, China HE Kexin could not to be beaten on the first day of the apparatus finals in London and won the title, before the surprise gymnast of this World Championship, Koko TSURUMI, who after all-around Bronze now, won a World Championship Silver, for the first time after 43 years, for Japan. Bronze went to Rebecca BROSS (USA) and Ana PORGRAS from Romania. Before, the vault European Champion Ariella KAESLIN had won the first ever Swiss World Championship medal in womens gymnastics with Silver and only got beaten by the US beginner Kyla WILLIAMS.
The last final day brought the second Chinese victory by letzte DENG, Linlin (Balken) and the cheered on first British World Championship Gold on the floor by the current European Champion Beth TWEDDLE...

For the second time in history after 2005, has there been a US-American dual success in the all-around decision of a gymnastics world championship.
After a dramatic fall by Rebecca BROSS (57,775) who was the best of the qualification until the last acrobatic floor series, her Olympics colleague from 2008 and countrywoman, Bridget SLOAN (57,825) pulled past her and won the Gold medal with 57,825 points - silver for Bross.
The surprise of the daz was also the first all-around medal for the Japanese womens gymnastics by Koko TSURUMI, who with 57,175 achieved an impressively stable four-round. Chinese, Romanians and also Russians were not in near any medals due to too many instabilities.
On the other hand Ariella KEASLIN from Switzerland faught her way to a proud eighth place under the top ten of the world...

After the gymnastics giants of the 70's Eizo Kenmotzu (1970, Lubljana), Shigeru Kasamatsu (1974, Warna) and after Hiroyuki Tomita recently in 2005 in Melbourne, the 22 year old Kohei UCHIMURA proves himself the fourth Japanese to seize the world championship gymnastics crown and stand as the best all-around artist.
With a start-goal win and without too much competition he put the young Brit ish European vice-champion Daniel KEATINGS with a good 2,5 points advantage onto place two, who achieved the first all-around medal at a world championship for Great Britain, amidst the full applause of London's O2 Arena. The Bronze went to the third of the European Championship, to Juri RYASANOV from Russia, who managed to overtake the second Japanese, Kazuhito TANAKA to the place of honour with a tenth point advantage...

The long womens qualification day in London's O2-Arena ends with a surprisingly success of the US gymnast Rebecca BROSS.
She leads with a score of 57,400 in front of the Rumanian Ana PORGRAS (57,300), followed by the strong Australien Lauren MITCHELL with 56,675 points.
The women's all-around final of the best 24 gymnasts will held Friday, October 16.
At the first day of these Worlds altogether 250 gymnasts, representing 69 nations are fighting in three subdivisions for the all-around qualification (AA final at Thursday) , but also for the finals at all the six apparatuses at the upcoming weekend in the O2 arena in London.
After subdivision I subdivision with the hopeful young British Daniel KEATINGS, from USA national Vice-champion Timothy MCNEILL, the Japanese Kazuhito TANAKA lead one of the favourite MaximDEVIATOVSKI (RUS), but after the third round Kohei UCHIMURA from Japan took the lead.....

Fabian Hambuechen, a favorite for the men's all-around title at the 41st World Championships in London, is out of these Worlds after rupturing a ligament in his left foot.
The German said to the international press at Monday's press conference, that he doesn't need surgery and should be able to resume full training in six weeks. He injured his left ankle during training on floor exercise Sunday, his last event of the day.
The young Swabian debutant, Sebastian Krimmer, who was originally scheduled to only compete in pommel horse, will add parallel bars. Germany already had another all-arounder, Marcel Nguyen
The loss of Hambuechen, the 2007 silver medalist, leaves Olympic silver medalist Kohei Uchimura and Jonathan Horton as the leading contenders for the men's gold.
So Hambuechen cannot participate at the lucrative Championstrophy this month in Hanover (GER) and will also fail at the Swiss Cup in Zurich, Switzerland...

The women's competitions of the 2009 Worlds
Since the start in 1934, now in 2009 the women have their 32nd artistic gymnastics World Championships. Titles will be handed out in the all-around and in the event finals. Like also in the men's field, no team competition will take place.
The 147 participating gymnasts come from 55 nations.
It is good to see that 63% of them, 97 gymnasts, will show a full all-around.....

2007 World Silver medallist and current European Champion on All Around Fabian HAMBUECHEN (GER) twisted his ankle when practicing a 2½ twisting somersault on Floor.
The last piece of apparatus he was working at today’s podium training. He was taken to hospital. At this point in time no predictions on the severeness of the injury or Hambuechen’s participation in the competition could be made...

The Women's Artistic Gymnastics community elected the Olympic Champion Nastia Liukin (USA) as a member of the FIG Athletes' Commission.
The election took place in the London O2 (GBR) at the occasion of the 41st World Championships.

The 41st artistic gymnastics World Championships will take place in the O2 Millennium Arena in London - which also is the venue of the gymnastics competitions at theOlympic Games 2012 - from October 13th to 18th 2009. More than 400 athletes from 68 nations take part in the event.
During these individual World Championships decisions will be made in the all-around as well as in the apparatus finals (- no team competition).
In the men's field alone 252 gymnasts from 67 countries are expected to compete. However, only 30% of the athletes (77) will show a full all-around.....
