dtb-info: After the four WCh’s-goals from Miroslav Klose against Saudi Arabia and

Klose

Ireland everyone in Germany definitely knows what a (forward) salto is. But not only Klose is an acrobat on the floor , numerous other players from various nations present gymnastics elements – provided that they have scored a goal before.

Ireland’s Robbie Keane showed after his goal in the match against Germany the combination of round-off – dive roll.

However, the uncrowned “floor king“ up to now is Julius Aghahowa from Nigeria. After his goal in the match against Sweden he even presented seven flip-flops followed by a backwards salto. It is not (yet) known if Julius plans to compete for the Nigerian team at the artistic gymnastics World Championships in Stuttgart 2007.

DTB-President Rainer Brechtken is happy about the gymnastics presentations from the soccer players: “This confirms my opinion that a solid basic training in gymnastics leads to a technically brilliant soccer player.“ (dtb-info, 7-June-2002)

Further technical hints and the latest state of best performances in floor acrobatics – not only for soccer stars – were presented by the participants of the last European Gymnastics Championships in Patras. The organisers published video-clips which also include acrobatic series on floor from:

Stefani Bisbikou (GRE)
Double salto bw. piked
Alexej Nemow (RUS)

Aliona Kvasha (UKR)
