All-around Russian winner trio, (from l-r) Daria Kondakova, Evgenia Kanaeva, Daria Dmitrieva
Today the apparatus finals of the 10th Berlin Masters and Grand-Prix Final take place in the Max-Schmeling-Hall at the German capital city.
Beside the 10th anniversary of this competition, it’s also the final of the Grand-Prix-Series 2010 and for most of the gymnasts, especially those who won’t compete at the Asian Games in two weeks, it’s the last big event of the year.
Yesterday’s all-around was dominated by the Russian gymnasts and also at today’s finals they were the dominating nation.

Saturday, 30th of October 2010: INDIVIDUAL ALL-AROUND
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This year’s Grand Prix Final
in the Max-Schmeling Hall in Berlin was again dominated by the gymnast from Russia. Evgenia Kanaeva won today’s all-around, ahead of her teammates Daria Kondakova and Daria Dimitrieva.
Behind the Russian winner trio placed Liubov Charkashyna from Belarus, Aliya Garaeva (AZE), Neta Rivkin (ISR), Anna Alyabyeva (KAZ) and Joanna Mitrosz (POL).

Results All-Around Grand Prix Berlin:
1-Evgenia Kanaeva 116,448
2-Daria Kondakova 115,607
3-Daria Dmitrieva 113,989

At the beginning of the competition, Evgenia Kanaeva had some, for her uncommon insecurities and little mistakes, and was only on second place after the first two rotations, behind Daria Kondakova.
But after a short break before the last two routines, she recovered and was able to show her full potential. Kanaeva got even a perfect 10 in the partial score for difficulty what means that she got no deductions, nor at body difficulty (D1) nor at apparatus difficulty (D2) which compose the final D (difficulty) score.

  On Friday at the press conference, Kanaeva was asked where she gets the motivation from after having won all possible titles to continue with her sport. She answered was that her aim is to do better all the time, because she still sees her weak points when she watches her routines, but also that her main goal is to attend the Olympic Games in London 2012.

Usually, at all-around finals at European or World Championships only two gymnasts per country are allowed to compete, even if three gymnasts would be qualified, but Grand-Prix-events have their own and different rules.
Tomorrow at the apparatus finals, only the best two Russian gymnasts with every apparatus will compete, as only two gymnasts of each nation have starting rights. That means that the bronze medal will surely be the medal where all others are going to fight for, as the Russian girls seem unbeatable this season.

Rope Podium (l-r) Daria Kondakova, Evgenia Kanaeva, Liubov Charkashyna
  Sunday, 31st of October 2010: APPARATUS FINALS

This rope final was also the last final with this apparatus at a big competition (beside the Asian Games), as in 2011 the clubs exercises will replace those with rope and, maybe, today it was a good-bye forever to the rope, as the FIG studies to leave this apparatus out of the rotations as it is not visible enough at the TV screens and thatfor not suitable for TV broadcasting.

Results Rope Final:

Evgenia Kanaeva
, that today seems much more relaxed and not tired like yesterday, did a flawless and  very expressive hoop routine and got 29,750 points for it. On second place came Liubov Charkashyna (28,350 points) who was very happy with her first two exercises and kissed the ring on her right hand after each routine sending greetings home to Belarus. The third place went to Kazakh gymnast Anna Alyabyeva (27,700 points). Very unfortunate was Daria Kondakova, the second Russian gymnast, who had two big drops with her hoop that even went out of the carpet once.

Results Hoop Final

  * Ball Final
Also with ball, Evgenia Kanaeva was the best gymnast in Berlin. She showed an exercise fully packed with body and apparatus difficulties on highest level, combined with wonderful expression and artistry and got 29,650 points for her performance. Second placed teammate, and roommate in the training centre in Moscow, Daria Dmitrieva (29,350 points). On third place came Aliya Garaeva from Azerbaidjan (27,900 points) who didn’t have much luck at this year’s Grand-Prix-Final, she seemed a little bit tired and had quite a lot of mistakes, that is very unusual for her, and didn't get any medals except this bronze with ball.

Results Ball Final
1-Evgenia Kanaeva (RUS) 29,650
2-Daria Dmitrieva (RUS) 29,350
3-Aliya Garaeva (AZE) 27,900
4- Liubov Charkashyna (BLR) 27,550
5-Neta Rivkin (ISR) 27,100
6-Joanna Mitrosz (POL) 26,625
7-Anna Alyabyeva (KAZ) 26,400
8-Anna Rabstava (BLR) 25,100

* Ribbon Final
The ribbon final ended with a little surprise as two gymnasts, Daria Kondakova and Evgenia Kanaeva (both RUS), scored exactly the same points (29,600) - what hardly seen considering that the final score for an exercise is composed by three partial marks (difficulty, artistry, execution) with the difficulty score again subdivided in two parts (body and apparatus difficulty). In this cases, the gymnast with the better execution mark gets the higher ranking. Here in Berlin, also this mark was the same for both and so the one with the better artistic score, Evgenia Kanaeva, won. Third placed again Liubov Charkashyna from Belarus (27,950 points).

Results Ribbon Final:
1-Evgenia Kanaeva (RUS) 29,600
2-Daria Kondakova (RUS) 29,600
3-Liubov Charkashyna (BLR) 27,950
4- Aliya Garaeva (AZE) 27,400
5-Joanna Mitrosz (POL) 26,650
6-Anna Gurbanova (AZE) 26,250
7-Neta Rivkin (ISR) 25,950
8-Anna Rizatdinova (UKR) 25,750

Daria Kondakova same score than Kanaeva, but

Daria Dmitrieva, awarded with the "Winner's Prize"
and silver with ball
  * Winner’s Prize
As it was the Grand-Prix Final here in Berlin and the last Grand-Prix-competition for this season, the winner’s prize was awarded to the gymnasts who scored most points in this year’s series.
In 2010 this was Daria Dmitrieva, who also participated at all Grand-Prix-events. On second place came Evgenia Kanaeva and third was Daria Kondakova (all RUS).
