On Friday, 15th October 2004, the competitions of Berlin Masters of Rhythmic Gymnastics 2004 started with the 'Mercedes Benz Cup'. Russia's rhythmic gymnastics star Alina Kabaeva announced her retirement from the sport. The Athens Olympic individual gold medallist said she had decided to end her career after winning the ION Cup - the world club championships - in Tokyo. Olympic Champion Alina Kabaeva (RUS) won the international tournament “Grace of East” in Tashkent (UZB). The second place was secured by Kazakh athlete Aliya Yusupowa (KAZ).
Azerbaijani gymnast Anna Gurbanova ranked fourth in the all-round competition and won three medals in other exercises.
