Olympic all-around title to China's Li Xioashuang by hundreths of a point, but gained the
crown of fan favorite with his charisma and antics at the Olympic Gala. At the end he was
the most succesful gynmnast in Atlanta. He status as a teen idol was assured when he was dubbed on of the "50 Most Beautiful Guys in the World" by an American Lifestyle Magazin "YM" (Young and Modern) in January 1997. Nemov lists among his hobbies music, cars, going to the disco and girls. Ukrainian rhythmic star Yelena Vitrichenko is a former girlfriend. Nemov's mother first took him to a gym sponsored by an auto manufacturer in their hometown of Togliatti. In 2000 he started with the Russian AA title and a victory in World Stars 2000" in Moscow and to the World Cup in Montreux he scored under the two best on floor and High bar. After his gold medals in AA and on highbar Nemov gone on tour across the USA and was one of the Russian stars. In 2001 he took part only at the Goodwill Games, but his form at the wold championships was not good enough for medals. So the Belarussian star Ivan Ivankov threatens him on his No. 1 world ranking position....!! |

verlor er den Olympischen Mehrkampftitel nur mit Bruchteilen von Punkten gegen den
Chinesen Li, Xiaoshuang, avancierte aber dann zur abschließenden Olympia-Gala mit
Charisma und allerlei Späßchen und Gags nicht nur zum Publikumsliebling, sondern
war auch in der Medaillenbilanz der erfolgreichste Turner der Spiele. Sein Status als
Teenie-Idol wurde z.B. in Amerika noch durch Berichte im Lifestyle-Magazin
"Young&Modern" im Januar 1997 verstärkt. Seine ursprünglichen Hobbies wie Musik, Disco, Girls.. weichen immer mehr ernsthafteren Plänen fürs Leben. Seine Mutter hatte ihm bereits 1997 die Unterstützung des in seiner Heimatstadt Togliatti ansässigen Lada-Autowerkes besorgt. Im Olympiajahr 2000 wurde er Russischer Mehrkampf meister, stand beim "Le Duel"-Weltcup zweimal im Winnersfinal der besten zwei (Boden und Reck). Nemow überwand seine langwierigen Schulterprobleme, und wurde in Sydney endlich Mehrkampf-Olympiasieger und olympischer Reck-Champion. Seit 1996 ist er die ununterbrochene Nr. 1 der Weltrangliste , trat allerdings nach Olympia kürzer, legte Schwerpunkt auf's Geldverdienen (USA-Tournee statt Weltcup-Finale) und machte sich auch 2001 ziemlich rar. Er war bei keinem der Frühjahrs-Weltcups dabei und versuchte sich über die Goodwill Games in eine WM-Form zu bringen. Dies ist ihm aber gründlich misslungen: Ghent brachte im bei seinen 8. Welttitelkämpfen sein persönlich schlechtestes Abschneiden. Iwan Ivankow rückt seiner Spitzenposition in der Weltrangliste bedrohlich nahe und verdrängte Nemow kurz vor den Weltmeisterschaften in Debrecen 2002 gar vom Thron...! Im März dann war der Bulgare Jowtschew auf Rang1. Bei den Olympischen Spielen verhinderte ein Wertungseklat den Gewinn einer Medaille am Reck. Er turnte hier keinen Mehrkampf und wurde nur 6. mit der russischen Mannschaft. |
