Maras takes gold for the host

The completing highlight of the 28th Men’s Artistic Gymnastics European Championships in the Greek Volos were the men’s apparatus finals.
Romania and Russia won two gold medals each: Golotsutskov (RUS) became European Champion on floor, Koczi (ROM) was the best on pommelhorse. Safoshkin won the title (RUS) on rings, Dragulesco (ROM) won on vaulting table.
Petkovsek gained the European title on parallel bars for Slovenia.
And the host Greece celebrated a gold medal on high bar won by Vlasios Maras.

The Juniors' Apparatus Finals...
The superior All-around Champion Mykola Kuksenov (UKR) was the only junior, who started in all six apparatus finals today. These started already at 9.30 a.m. local time.
With nine qualifiers, Germany had the most chances and was not present in the pommelhorse final, only;
The Ukraine as well as Russia are the two nations that were represented in all six finals with eight finalists each. Greece sent four, Switzerland three contestants into the finals.
Suprisingly, strong junior nations as Italy and France were represented only once....
Germany’s juniors achieved their best result ever, and became the best nation of this JECh...:

... this is the medal ranking of today's team final of the 28th Men's European Championships in Volos.
Only the fight Russia vs. Romania was the interesting aspect of this competition. Russia won at last with 272,225 : 270,325 points.
The bronze medal went to Belarus (268,975), followed by Ukraine, Italy France, Germany and Switzerland...

Germany - the winners in the juniors team competition
|
The juniors team competition which also served as individual all-around at these European Championships in men's artistic gymnastics has ended now.
The German juniors won the team gold medal in front of Russia and Ukraine.
The victory in the individual all-around went to Mykolay Kuksenkov from Ukraine. Silver was won by Vladimir Olennikov from Russia and bronze went to Germany's Max Finzel.

The "28th Men's European Championships" have started in Volos with the men's qualification.
With a convincing performance Russia clearly took the lead in the team ranking in front of Ukraine and France. Other teams like Romania or Germany didn't manage to remain without mistakes.
The competition continues tomorrow with the juniors team competition which will be the decision as well for the team event as also the individual all-around. On Saturday follows the seniors team final and on Sunday the apparatus finals for as well the juniors as also the seniors.

Wednesday evening the 28th European Championships in men’s artistic gymnastics were opened in Volos.
Before the competitions will start with the seniors qualification on Thursday, were held the juniors podium training.
The junior events in Volos certainly will be interesting to see since quite a few of the participating gymnasts might already belong to their respective senior national teams for next years World Championships or the 2008 Olympic Games.

Before the 28th EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS in men's artistic ggymnastics 2006 will be opened officially with an Opening Ceremony in the city theater of Volos (GRE) on Wednesday evening, on Tuesday took place the seniors podium training.
The juniors podium training will follow on Wednesday.

The seniors apparatus finals are over. After a successful day for Russia already during the juniors events, Anna Grudko won the vault final now in the seniors field. The victory on uneven bars clearly went to Elizabeth Tweddle (GBR).
As expected Romania with strong performances on beam and floor, the victory on beam went to Olympic Champion Catalina Ponor who previously had announced her retirement after these European Championships. Bronze in this final went to Sandra Izbasa. The floor final then was won by Izbasa and Ponor won the bronze medal.
With silver on vault Olga Sherbatykh finally secured a medal for Ukraine, bronze in this final went to Katja Abel from Germany. Spain and Czech Republic with their first medals in the seniors field at these championships, Jana Sikulova and Lenika de Simone won silver and bronze on uneven bars and de Simone also silver on beam.
Further medals on beam and floor went to Marina Proskurina UKR) and Vanessa Ferrari (ITA).

Janssen-Fritsen: lottery for a 'Pegases'

On April 29th, the birthday of the Queen of the Netherlands, the official supplier of these European Championships and official UEG- partner, the company Janssen-Fritsen from Helmond/NED, hosted a Cocktail- Reception in Volos for all heads of delegation as well as UEG- and FIG representatives and members of the Greek organising committee.
"Pegases" as lucky charm
The Dutch producer of gym equipment "J&F" also had prepared a special surprise for this Reception....

Karina Myasnikova (RUS) - two times gold today!
|
The juniors’ apparatus finals are over. Russia was the most successful nation with gold for Karina Myasnikova on vault and uneven bars and for Daria Elizarova on beam and silver for Elena Kokareva on uneven bars.
Romania improved at the end of the finals with gold for Aluissa Lacusteanu on floor and two times silver on beam and floor for Andreea Grigore.
Germany's Marie-Sophie Hindermann with two medals, silver and bronze, today and bronze medals also went to Luxembourg and Belgium.

ITALY with Ferrari - GOLD!

For the first time in the history of Women’s European Championships in artistic gymnastics Italy won the gold medal in the seniors team event!
With a great team performance on a high technical level Italy reached the score of 175.225 and won the competition narrowly by one tenth in front of Romania (175.125) and Russia (173.075).
A great individual performance again was presented by Vanessa Ferrari (< photo, left) who already was the best all-arounder in the qualification
Spain had a great last rotation and climbed up to the fourth place in front of Ukraine, France, Great Britain and the Netherlands...

Daria Elizarova (RUS) Junior European AA Champion!

The Junior European Championships have started in Volos on Friday.
Russia won the team gold medal in front of Romania and the bronze medal sensationally went to the team from Germany!
In the individual all-around the victory went to Daria Elizarova (RUS/ 59.250) in front of her team mate Karina Myasnikova (58.800) and Germany’s Marie-Sophie Hindermann (57.800).
Friday's competition also served as qualification for the juniors' apparatus finals. The seniors team final follows on Saturday and the apparatus finals for both juniors and seniors on Sunday....

Vanessa Ferrari Vice- European Junior Champion in 2004 - and the best in the all-round today!

The 1st day of the 27th European Championships in women’s artistic gymnastics with the seniors’ qualification is over. Russia narrowly took the lead in front of Romania and Italy.
The best in the individual all-around was the silver medallist from the European Junior Championships 2004 (Amsterdam), Vanessa Ferrari from Italy who was the only gymnast today who scored more tha 60 points!
The organising European Gymnastics Union UEG has decided not to hold an all-around final, which is usually said to be the decision for the “crown of gymnastics”, at these championships.
So on Saturday a team final will be held and on Sunday the apparatus finals......
