"Perfect Ten Gymnasts"
At the location of the current
RAI conference centre in Amsterdam, in which the world gymnaestrada 1991
took place, was in 1967 the hall in which the legendary Vera
Caslavska wrote Gymnastic history:

Althoug
one finds the perfect 10,0 which Nadja
Comaneci scored at the Olympic Games of 1976
mentioned very often in publicity, the elegant Vera
Caslavska from Prague was the first person to score a
perfect ten in Gymnastic history. Actually she scored the first
2 perfect 10´s. One on the balance beam and another one on the
floor.

The next
perfect 10 was recorded at the European Championships
14 years later. Maxi Gnauck
from Berlin (Germany), the multiple crowned queen of the
uneven bars in here era, scored the perfect 10 in Madrid
in 1981 on her most favourite aparatus, the uneven bars. |

Four years later, in
Helsinky in 1985 the perfect sore was recorded once again. Elena
Shushova´s vaulting exercise in the all around
competition was awarded the perfect 10 score.
At the same European Championships the unforgettable Oxana
Omilyanchyk received a perfect 10 for her perfect
floor exercise at the finals. Many of us surely do remeber the
impressive exercise that was choreographed on "artwork for
a moment" that started of musically with folkloristic bird
chatter....
... and here is again another gymnastic circle completed:
The same Oksana Omilyantchyk is a judge at the ECh in Amsterdam,
as she was at the Pre-Olympics in Athens and she decides which
marks the possible heirs to here throne will get.

The "Boginskaya"

Other perfect 10´s
were recorded in 1987 in Moscow by Daniela
Silvash for here Floor exercise first in the all
around competition (2nd place) another one in the finals
and a third one two years later in Brussels, again at the floor
exercise.
There a never ever before thing
happened The perfect 10 score was matched by Svetlana
Boginskaya with here legendary choregraped floor
eaxercise with the unforgettable gitar sound final....
Boginskaya was in Athens 1990
also the last gymnast sofar with whom the judges could not find
one single mistake...
In the mean time the code of
points has been changed very often, which makes it difficult to
make a one on one comparison between then and now; if and when
it will give another perfect 10 not even the "Gods" of
the Technical Committee at mount Olympus" can tell..... |
