From the first European Championships 1955 (Frankfurt/Germany) on the
UEG registered all together 83 different individual European Champions,
coming from 21 different countries.

Adalbert Dickhut and Helmut Bantz were the first German winners
in 1955 and Eberhard Gienger is the most successful German
athlet (3x gold).
- For the German Democratic Republic (GDR, at last 1990)
five European Champions won seven titles: Klaus Koeste, Ralph Baerthel, Roland
Brueckner, Sylvio Kroll, Holger Behrendt and
Andreas Wecker, who won in 1992 (Budapest) the first, but also
the last gold medal for the unit Germany.
