Floor-European champion Fahrig, floor Bronze for Nguyen, Germanys men most successful nation! |
<< The Hallenser Matthias FAHRIG is for the first time the floor European Champion and behind the surprise European Champion Tomi TUUHA from Finnland is also "vice" with vault.
Italy's Matteo MORANDI was successful with the rings and YANN CUCHERAT (FRA) defended his title equally successfully on the parallel bars, like the Greek Vlasios MARAS on the high-bar, where behind Epke ZONDERLAND (NED) the two Germans Philipp BOY and Fabian HAMBÜCHEN each got a Bronze medal...

German medal-quartett of the day:
Fabian Hambüchen, Philipp Boy, European Champion Matthias Fahrig, Marcel Nguyen
With 2x Gold, 1x Silber and 3x Bronze most successful Europeans nation!

+ KOSMIDIS: - first respect! .. Double-Tsukahara, Thomas streched.. Thomas tucked... Double salto + twist, standing correction.
+ PURVIS - Double-twist, directly into ... Thomas streched- perfect landing after final sequence! ... is celebrated!
+ NGUYEN - Double-Tsukahara in first sequence(not clean) .. after combined sequence the same...Tsukah. tucked into finish.
+FAHRIG - the Vice-European Champion of Milan (2009) was the best in the preliminaries ... double-twist forwards double salto direct ... double-twist-1/2-turn.- wobbles a little after the 3rd acro-sequence - powers up again into double-twist tucked - STANDS!! - that must have been it, if the two Romanians didn't poker too high; a medal for sure!
+ KOCZI - known as "twist-king" , but the contents (6.2) are not enough to be right in front!
+ BUCUR - ... not enough substance:
Matthias Fahrig (GER) after Silver 2009 for the first time Floor-European Champion!

+ BERTONCELJ - clean final exercise, no risk, very clean!!
+ VAN DAMME - comes off the pommel horse with straddle over handstand...but comes through, handstand exit good;
+ BUSNARI - very striking choreography, changes from directly over from push-up rotations over handstand and directly into the travel-move over the horse - BEAUTIFUL!...but it doesn't help...problems with the exit!
+ HIDVEGI - ofcourse a Hungarian in the pommel horse final, but only just ( eighth yesterday: 14,625), today: again technically excellent and clean, improvements!
+ KEATINGS - third last year: - ... extreme with three Russian-turn-swings between the pommels (!!) everything very elegant, difficult (6.7, highest A-grade!) - the hall celebrates him!!
+ KOCZI - was only 4th in 2009 , but has medal chances - but compared to the two the two Brits, it was not clean enough, again only 4th!
Therewith the well deserved British double-win was perfect!

+ AIT SAID - from the beginning a great man, the Cottbuss winner was brilliant with the swallow lift into head cross, everything elegant and sovereign, only the Tsukahara-exit was wobbly in the landing;
+ VAHAGN - an Armenian in the Europeans Final (- already strong in the Juniors), very good but technically still not completely strong ;
+ JOWTSCHEW- incredible, this man: since 1996 he has participated now his 10th European, but for the first time gets his title. The President of the Bulgarian gymnastics federation seems also with 37 to be invincible - no matter how it ends, and if this time he celebrates a crooked ,head-lease...;
+ HAMBÜCHEN - wobbles in the head-lease, looses balance, head over forwards, nothing else works ...;
+ BÖSCHENSTEIN - quadruple-strength-combi - good at the beginning, looses tenths unnecessarily in the hand sequences, otherwise ok, of course better than Hambüchen;
+ NGUYEN - prooves true his virtue as a brilliant all-around gymnast and his elegant presentation as well as good strength, though he is not the muscular type: pushes Niki behind him !
+ MORANDI - totally different the Italian muscleman, high difficulty, good gymnastics!!
beautiful + difficult, the way to win!
Also beautiful, that the gymnastics president Jowtschew is rewarded with a medal. Incredible!

Timo TUUHA (FIN) |
<< This is how happy one can be, if one does not expect it:
Tomi TUUHA is European Champion. We last saw the sympathetic Finnish gymnast in the World Cup Vault Final in Cottbuss, where he was 6th behind his countrymate Timo Niemelae ...!
For Finnland this is after
(1967, Tampere), Lasse Laine's floor success, again the first Europeans title since 34 years!
Flavius KOCZI - in Milan 2009 still vice, in front of Matthias Fahrig, has to be happy with the Bronze now.

+ CUCHERAT - der Titelverteidiger mit ungünstiger Stratposition, legt als Vorkampfbester, aber keine Steigerung zu Freitag!
+ ZONDERLAND - sehr schöner "Pegan in seiner Übung, kommt aber an der sehr soliden Übung aber sauber geturnten Übung des Polen Kierzkowski nicht vorbei;... dichtes Gedränge, wenig Unterschiede zwischen den bislang besten Übungen;

![]() |
+ ZONDERLAND - shines at the start with his speciality Kovacs + Kolman, but close to the bar...: arms bent in wheel...gets back into rhythm until the exit, despite high difficulty remains behind Maras.
+ WAMMES - the second "Flying Dutchman" cannot keep up contentwise; solidity is not everything to get to the top ;
+ CUCHERAT - what movement he has in his shoulders and in his turns. That's where he gets his points (6.8);
+ PEGAN - now the old time master, since 1994 - also like Jowtschew at his 10. European (!!) , and he was also 2x Champion before!!
And today: Experience is not everything: weaknesses after the eagle 1/2 turn and triple sommersault lands on his knees - what a shame!
+ BOY - Kolman works, then good eagle then - looks like a medal. Important to note for himself: the competition has become tougher: BRONZE!
+ HAMBÜCHEN - also the second German finishes his exercise - yes but the fire is missing. Maybe the boy needs a break? But Hambüchen is always good for a medal BRONZE with Boy!
And the German Men's gymnastics with two titles and in total 6 medals is the most successful Men's nation in Birmingham!
