On the second day of the 32nd MEN's EUROPEANS of Artistic Gymnastics only 21 teams will start in the competion 1 - without titleholder Russia, without the Ukraine and the Byelorussian team, absent due to the Icelandic ash expulsion into the European sky - to compete for Saturday's team final.
The individual gymnasts will fight for the qualification for the apparatus finals on Sunday.
In Friday's program there are three subdivisions...:
After the second Germany leads in front of Spain, Romania and Switzerland ...
... just in progress: Subdivision 3 with Great Britain., Italy, France, Slovenia, Greece and Poland ...

In the first round eight teams participated. Romania should be in front. Turkey only starts with 3 gymnasts like Irland, who don`t complete the whole programme.
In the 2nd round Germany should be in the lead followed by the Brits...!

... what was especially impressive:
<< Flavius KOCZI (ROU) - showed a fantastic competition: highest marks in the round of four apparatus, with vault he got the first until now 16er mark; on the parallel bars with 14.600 only bettered by the Portuguese Almeida (14,775) - however leaves out the high bar. Minor posture weaknesses on the pommel horse, but manages the only 15er mark!
Impressive his Tsukahara with3 (!) twists!!
* Robert SELIGMAN (CRO) - messes up his pommel horse exercise;
* Filip UDE (CRO) - very disappointed after his fall off the pommel horse;

... what was especially impressive:
<< Flavius KOCZI (ROU) - showed a fantastic competition: highest marks in the round of four apparatus, with vault he got the first until now 16er mark; on the parallel bars with 14.600 only bettered by the Portuguese Almeida (14,775) - however leaves out the high bar. Minor posture weaknesses on the pommel horse, but manages the only 15er mark!
Impressive his Tsukahara with3 (!) twists!!

* Fabian LEIMLEHNER (AUT) - his exercise was balanced but with weaknesses on the floor, but best all-around result of the 1st round; very good high bar exercise: 14,200 (A-5.9), his countrymate
* Marco BALDAUF even performs slightly better than him : 14,275, which will however not be enough for the high-bar final, because his "Yamawaki"-flight element was only acknowledged as tucked ("Woronin") and not piked (A-mark: 6.0 instead of 6.4) !

* ... what was particularly impressive:
* Fabian HAMBÜCHEN (GER) - had to be the first on the floor...after the double-Tsukahara steps off the mat once...strong starting exercise: first 15'er-mark of the day on this apparatus (6.2) = 15,100;
* Matthias FAHRIG (GER) - impressive dynamic: very secure the direct combination double-twist-doublesalto-forwards remains without any mistakes until the end: (6.7)= 15,875;
* Marcel NGUYEN (GER) - no matter what the boy does, it always looks very elegant and weightless, no matter how difficult: (6.5) = 15,225;
furious start by the Germans : = 46,150, those are already 2,55 points more than the Romanians at this apparatus!
* Jeffrey WAMMES (NED) - 2 good vaults Yurtshenko 21/2 (15.875) and Kasamatsu 1/1 (15,325);
* Eugen SPIRIDONOV (GER) - starting exercise on the pommel-horse well done - which is motivating (5.6(= 13,925;
* M. FAHRIG (GER) - unfortunatly falls off once during the exercise (5.1)= 12,00;
* Philipp BOY (GER) - except for a few small weaknesses in the leg control, otherwise difficult and dynamic, comes through with (6.0)= 14,125;
The Germans on the pommel-horse only = 40,050, not amazing, here the Romanians were 3,2 points better!
* Kriztian BERKI (HUN) - the four-time European Champion on the pommel-horse was elegant but has not shown everything he has to give yet (5.7)= 14,250 - the Romanians Koczi and Boudiso were better;
* J. WAMMES (NED) - ... "wobbles" his way through the parallel-bar exercise ... the finish was "fittingly insecure", only =12,950!
*Epke ZONDERLAND (NED) - top-parallel-bar exercise, shows Diomidow with extra twist ("Pegan"), "Makuz followed by salto forwards in push-up (6.1)= 15.000 - the first marks over 15 at this apparatus! Der Mann hat die WM zu Hause in Rotterdam im Blick!
* F. HAMBÜCHEN GER) - rings- without problems.. also double-summersault forwards tucked into standing (5.9=14,550;
* P. BOY (GER) - .. the same, except for an insecure landing... (6.0)=14,200;
* M: NGUYEN (GER) - ...very nice and flowing turning movements between the rings (Jonasson & Yamawaki) also the streched Tsukahara-finish done well (6.2)=14,575, noone had more than this until now!!
* VAN MINDE (NED) - high-bar- ... UPPS! - a triple-salto as a finish over the bar (!) rarely seen , reminds us of the inventor, the ex-Berliner Ulf Hoffmann, in den 80´s ...: (5.4)= 13,075;
* J. WAMMES (NED) - high-bar- ... with his confusing game of turns he collects his A-Punkte (6.2)=14,450;
* F. Hambüchen (GER) - vault - Yurtshenko 2/1 - good: (6.2)=15,500;
* M. NGUYEN (GER) - Kasamatsu 11/5 good (6.6)= 15,900; "Rochè" even better (6.6)= 15,925;
* M. FAHRIG (GER) - "Rochè" very high, correction step (6.6)=15,875; Kasamatsu 11/5 (6.6)=15,725;
* Claudia CAPELLI (SUI) - Pferd - ... nur 13,800 (5.9);
* J. WAMMES (NED) - floor... once off the mat,but stands after a 3/1-twist at the end =14,675.
* E. SPIRIDONOV (GER) - parallel-bars- again a strong starting exercise (5.6)=13,725
* F. HAMBÜCHEN (GER) - ... collapsed once a little in the push-up (5.6)=13,975;
*M. NGUYEN (GER)- ... with the difficult "Dimitrenko" , gymastics like that of "Fiffi, the feather...", playfull, weightless... (6.0)=14,550;
* Martinez (ESP) - floor- despite a stumble at the end, a good exercise by the Spaniard who is known for his strength in the all-around (6.0)=14,550;.
** Warning! - the Spanish with balanced gymnastics, good competition...before the last apparatus, they lie just slightly ahead of Germany!
* M. NGUYEN (GER) - Reck: ... Absturz nach Kolman-Salto (zu weit ... (5.8)=13,325;
* P. BOY (GER) - ... alles klapppt, mit Kolman, Adler mit Drehung, Tsukahara-gestreckt (6.9)= 15,375;
* F. HAMBÜCHEN (GER) - ... ist eben doch ein wettkampfharter Klassemann, turnt durch - und wie: Kolman, Tkatschow in die Riesenfelge mit gesprungener 11/5-Drehung - Tsuka-gestreckt das Schlusswort eines starken Teams: (7.0) = 15,550 - bislang d i e Übung des Tages!!

The Brits began controlled and solid on the floor.
Then Luis SMITH shows a top world class exercise on the pommel-horse and gets 15,725 points (A-grade: 8.7)!
... Daniel KEATINGS can almost no longer stand after: (6.6)=15,375.
... disbelief for the senior of the lot, Bulgarias performing Federation President, Jordan JOWTSCHEW on the rings (6.3) = 14,725!!
... the British Daniel PURVIS falls from the rings ...- only13,075!
... sudden black-out -no electricity in the hall ... confusion, helplessness because as well as this there was a "glitter-rain" that came from the roof, ..(??)... BREAK (20 min.) for now---!
... after a major clean-up the competitions continue ...!
* D. KEATINGS (GBR) - vault- shines with a clean Tsukahara- double-twist (6.2)=15,600;

... therefore the French quietly and solidly made their way in front:

* Samir AIT SAID - good Rochè - 15,625, since vault has a value dominance over the rest of the apparatus, the French managed to push their way ahead of the Germans in this last round ...:

For the closing apparatus finals the German gymnasts managed on 4 apparatus (except for pommel-horse and parallel-bars) to secure themselves 8 finals places. Probably never before with this constellation : On the floor and with vault (Fahrig ahead of Nguyen), aswell as on the high-bar (Hambüchen ahead of Boy) the German athletes marked their highest points. The chances with rings seem less optimistic - Nguyen as 7th as the only one with three start possibilities and Hambüchen as 8th.
