Golden German Team! |
For the first time ever the German gymnasts win the Gold medal at a Team-European Championship.
After Silver behind Russia two years ago, they won the Gold in Birmingham today with 266,150 points and a comfortable advantage over the host Great Britain(263,025), who, in the last Team-European Championship didn't even reach the finals with the 9th place!
France got the Bronze who in Lausanne 2008 were only in 5th position. In the absence of the title-holder Russia (- who didn't arrive in Birmíngham, also like Ukraine and Belarus) the Swiss were in 5th position behind Spain 4th - therewith both were good in front of Italy and Romania and Greece, who didn't show an upwards trend during this continental Champsionships ...

6. ROTATION
GERMANY on the pommel horse
* Eugen SPIRIDONOV - he always and so often is a "secure bench" - also today: start exercise - good gymnastics all the way through. ((5.6) = 14,225;
* Matthias FAHRIG - one knows he doesn't particularly like the pommel horse - and unfortunately also sees this...despite this .. he fights for his team and that is all that counts now .. (5.1) = 12,650;
* Philipp BOY - ... who usually shows his nervousness...today? strong nerves, secure, mature profile, Germany has got more than just one top gymnast !! Philipp comes through .. (5.8) = 14,325 - the team embraces each other, seemingly lucky but still a little sceptical, will it be a historic gymnastics moment for the Germans...??
* SWITZERLAND on the floor ...:
* Roman GISI - completed exercise .. (5.5) = 13,850;
* Mark RAMSEIER - not without errors in diverse landings and standing positions, but goes through with .. (5.3) = 13,775;
* Claudio CAPELLI - double-twist and tucked very clean, nice exercise with almost no minus points!! (6.1) =14,900, lovely ending!
... then the BRITS on the high-bar...:
* Daniel KEATINGS - without mistakes.. (5.7)=14,125;
* Samuel HUNTER - visually clean and good gymnastics but not difficult enough.. (6.3) = 14,575;
* Kristian THOMAS - ... had to get over 17 points - which is impossible - so Germany is already now and for the first time in gymnastics history the TEAM-EUROPEAN CHAMPION !!
