Rosannagh MACLENNAN: - Unexpected Canadian victory as Chinese favorites crashed

With the very last of all jumps of the 2012 Olympic trampoline competition here in London, the unexpected happened:
The big favorite, the Chinese Olympic champion from Beijing 2008, HE, Wenna failed the very last landing of her her very last jump and fell back from leading position, from near-certain first rank on third place ...!
In the history of this young Olympic discipline meant an unexpected victory for a Canadian athlete:
Rosannagh MACLENNAN became the 2012 Olympic champion with the most difficult of all exercises (15.4) and a final score of 57.305 points, ahead of China's HUANG, Shanshan (56.73) and of unlucky HE Wenna (55.950).
In her fourth Olympic participation Karen COCKBURN of Canada missed out on bronze ranking 4th, just as Germany's Olympic champion of 2004 in Athens, Anna Dogonadze who placed 10th, but wasn't too disappointed, even missing the final ...
* The Situation before ...
After the men's competions yesterday, now the women started their Olympic trampoline programme, consisting of qualification rounds and followed by the final.
It's the fourth Olympic decision of the youngest of all gymnastics disciplines included in the Olympic programme starting only 12 years ago.
The preliminaries started with the cumpulsory and the optional exercises..
Only the best eight athletes qualified for the final, which started directly after the qualification rounds.
As with the men here in London China was the favourite with the Olympic champion HE Wenna, (< photo, left). Canada's trampoline gymnasts Karen COCKBURN and Rosannagh MACLENNAN also wanted to move into the medals, but would they have chances? ..This risky discipline only ends after the tenth and last jump of the competition...
... even for the 39-year-old Olympic gold medalist from 2004 from Germany, Anna Dogonadze, like Cockburn competing at their fourth and last Olympic Games here in London...
