* PREVIEW: 29. World Championships of Rhythmic Gymnastics

The startlist of the 29th World Championships of Rhythmic Gymnastics in the Japanese city of Mie (September 07 – 13) includes everybody of distinction in the world of this sport.
Who else than the Russian Olympic and permanent winner of the last world cup circuit Evgenia Kaneva could be the favourit of these World Championships of Rhythmic Gymnastics.
Although almost 150 individual competitors and 26 groups from 53 countries registered, especially the Russian athletes will dominate this championships.
In other words: Who wants to win a medal has to either beat a Russian athlete first or has to be content with a maximum bronze-medal (individual) or silver (group). The titles are awarded in the team event of the different nations, the Olympic all-around, the four apparatus manipulations as well as the three decisions of group disciplines, all-around and two finals ....

<< Anna Bessonova, titleholder in all-around (Patras 2007), from the Ukraine is the most elegant darling of the audience.

It remains to be seen how close the Olympic third winner of Beijing 2008 and vice-world champion of Baku in 2005 will follow their Russian competitor.
Vera Sessina (RUS), vice world champion and Inna Zhukova (Belarus) vice Olympic champion will not participate.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see how well young Melitina STANIOUTA will be doing, since she had already reached remarkable ranks 3 and 4 in 2009, which was so far her best year.

Also the group competitions, the results of which are expected on the last two days of the tournament, are dominated by the Russians (photo on the left) who are titleholders as well as Olympic champions from Beijing.
Ranked 9th at the World Championship two years ago, the Chinese athletes will have to prove if they are still in their Olympic top-form (Beijing 2008).
After the World Cup Series the traditionally strong teams with Olympic experience from Belarus as well as the Bulgarians and the Italians (World Champion 2005) will also fight for the medals.

<< Maria Szyszkowska (POL), who looks forward to taking on the challenge of her first world championships as FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics TC President, after the end of the longtime curatorship of the Italian Egle Abruzzini at the end of 2008.
She introduced the new Technical Committee and presented Vera Sesina (RUS) as the new athletes’ representative, assuring the delegations that a strong panel of judges will guarantee fair and objective judging throughout the competitions.
She called for respect from all parties in an effort to make this event a great success.
