Evgenia KANAEVA (RUS) |
Evgenia KANAEVA won her sixth gold medal at the 31st World Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics , but at her last rotation that could have been a thriller screenplay:
Evgenia Kanaeva performed three wonderful routines – until the ball: 28.550 only... and at the end 116,650 !! This was a big chance for her Russian teammate Daria Kondakova (116,600) to get the title, but at the end she lost to Kanaeva a difference of -0.050 points - and got her fifth silver medal.
Bronze went to the last year fourth placed Aliya GARAYEVA from Azerbaijan (112,450), followed by Liubov Charkashyna (BLR; 112,200), Alina Maksymenko (UKR; 111,575) and the bronze medallist from Moscow 2010, Melitina Staniouta (BLR; 110,250) on sixth place.
The best 15 gymnast reached their directly tickets to the 2012 Olympic Games in London ...!

* ALL-AROUND FINAL
…after her ball routine Evgenia Kanaeva sat together with her coach in the “kiss&cry” area and couldn´t hardly believe it. So close to her next title she made so many mistakes – when she saw the total score of 116.650 points she had tears in her eyes.

Daria KONDAKOVA (RUS) silver again! |
Even more unlucky was Silviya Miteva from Bulgaria: three perfect routines opened her the way to bronze, but in her last, the hoop went out of the carpet and she had to take the reserve apparatus - she placed seventh in the end, but couldn´t still smile a little.
Aliya Garayeva from Azerbaidjan won the bronze medal, she did a steady competition without big mistakes.
Fourth placed Liubov Charkashyna from Belarus who also had some problems in her last routine with clubs and fifth Alina Maksimenko from the Ukraine.

For the first time Ukraine will have only one (!) representative at the Olympic Games next year in London, because Ganna Rizatdinova , also from Ukraine, made too many mistakes to place better than sixth in group B and in the Preolympic event only those gymnasts placed 16 to 24 in Montpellier´s all-around have the chance to win an Olympic starting spot if their country isn´t represented yet - and at the end Alina Maximenko placed fifth.

Aliya GARAYEVA from Azerbaijan won the all-around bronze medal - last year in Moscow she ranked on fourth place only.
Yeon Yae Seon dominated the competition in group B performing four faultless exercises scoring twice over 27 points and getting the 11th place at the general classification. The Korean Federation makes a lot of efforts to help its gymnasts develop, giving Seon the chance to train in the Russian training centre in Novogorsk with the biggest stars in gymnastics.

Austria's Caroline Weber on fifteenth place won the last of the 15 directly Olympic tickets, because Anna Alyabyeva (KAZ) lost her hoop and a lot of points ... |
Generally all gymnasts seemed very nervous as all of them were in a chance to qualify for London and it´ll be even more difficult to win one of the five spots that are given in January at the Preolympic event.
Maybe the most unlucky person in group B was Carolina Rodríguez from Spain who had to start the competition and who seemed very nervous. After a year full of injuries – she even had to retire from the competition at the European Championships in Minsk in May – she had two smaller drops and one big interruption performing an Italian fouetté that cost her a lot of points in her first exercise and left her without any chances.
