Russian gymnastic superstar Evgenia Kanaeva´s goal surely is to win all six possible gold medals! She started with her first two medals at the apparatus finals with hoop and ball. Also the second placed Daria Kondakova is from Russia.
Bronze with hoop went to Neta Rivkin from Israel – the first medal for Israel at a world championship - and bronze with ball won Liubov Charkashyna, the European Champion with this apparatus from Belarus...
Evgenia Kanaeva presented herself with great self-confidence and performed two wonderful exercises without mistakes.
Only some years ago critics might have said that she lacks expression, but now Kanaeva is the symbol of modern rhythmic gymnastics with routines as difficult as no other, outstanding elegance and technique - with all four apparatus.

<< Her teammate Daria Kondakova shows a completely different style, with fast and furious routines, also with difficult throws and catches, but she sometimes she seems hyper-motivated that seems to reduce her natural elegance.
Neta Rivkin won the first medal ever for Israel at a world championship, while Silviya Miteva placed unlucky fourth with only 0.050 points behind the bronze rank.
All other gymnasts had some problems in their routine and didn´t perform perfectly clean. Especially Ulyana Trofimova from Uzbekistan was unlucky. She performed a very good routine full of well executed body difficulties until the end, where she nearly finished without hoop after the last throw.
Neta Rivkin won the first medal ever for Israel at a world championship, while Silviya Miteva placed unlucky fourth with only 0.050 points behind the bronze rank.

<< Liubov Charkashyna won bronze with ball showing a nice exercise with the unmistakable Belorussian style, soft music combined with elegant movements and difficult throws and body elements. Again Silviya Miteva from Bulgaria placed fourth and Alina Maximenko (UKR) fifth. Ukraine´s n°1 had some problems rolling the balls over both arms and also at catch. Definitely, it wasn´t Aliya Garaeva´s day today: already with hoop she didn´t do all the catches correctly, again with ball she didn´t show herself in the usual shape with execution mistakes. Neta Rivkin also had a drop during her routine, as well as Melitina Staniouta (BLR) who seemed quite disappointed after her ball exercise.

At the European Championships last May in Minsk she had to leave the floor to catch one of the clubs - a mistake that left her for the first time without medal at a mayor competition since 2008.
This Thursday in Montpellier she got 29.600 points and the highest score that was given under the new Code of Points.

Third placed Silviya Miteva who finally got the medal she might have deserved already with hoop on Tuesday, but with the actual judging system only an expert could explain where the difference between third and fourth place lay.

With ribbon Evgenia Kanaeva performed to a classical piano music that seems specially made for this elegant gymnast. Without hurry she shows one difficulty after another combined with exceptional apparatus difficulties that no other in the world is able to do right now.
Kondakova chose a fast Caribbean-style music that suites her style better than classical themes and even if she shows difficult body difficulties and risks, too, she still lacks Kanaeva´s apparatus handling and charme.
Bronze medalist Silviya Miteva performed to a typical Spanish flamenco-style music, fast expressive with exceptional apparatus handling during the whole routine, every body difficulty was accompanied with “olé” shouts from the Spanish fans.

Summing up the apparatus decisions it´s remarkable that:
- only 10 different gymnasts competed at the finals,
- 8 of them in all finals (only Melitina Staniouta (BLR) and Ulyana Trofimova (UZB) interchanged their starting spots)
- these 10 gymnasts are from 7 different countries, all of them Eastern-European or from Central Asia.
- only gymnasts from 4 different countries could win a medal
- no Western gymnasts could get closer to a final starting spot than second or third reserve (Delphine Ledoux from France and Caroline Weber from Austria, respectively)
That´s for sure one of the main reasons that it´s so difficult to promote this beautiful in all other countries and that the general interest is not very high.
