TUESDAY: Hoop & Ball - Part II of Qualication and App. Finals

All gymnasts have now finished their routines with hoop and ball at the qualifying competing and team event of the 31st World Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics. Still Russia leads still the ranking with great ease scoring 170.875 points with six exercises, ahead of Belarus (163.300) and the Ukraine.
The three gymnasts of the Ukrainian team changed places with Azerbaijan, who placed third yesterday. Azerbaijan and the Ukraine - two teams that promise a hard fight for the team bronze in the next two days...

While the gold in the team event seems to be given already to Russia, with their nearly unbeatable gymnasts - and the silver medal most likely will go to Belarus if nothing unforeseen happens, only the fight about bronze will be very close between the Ukraine and Azerbaijan.

Nevertheless
, the advantage for Russia is not so big as usual after the first day due to a big mistake of Daria Dmitrieva who missed a catch - her ball even fell off the podium where the competition floor is built on.
One of the oldest (26 years) but most expirienced gymnast, the French Delphine Ledoux, was the first gymnast starting at the first day of these worlds:

Evgenia Kanaeva
and Daria Kondakova, the other two Russian team components showed their programmes with the usual precision and cleanliness and both lead the individual ranking, followed by Aliya Garaeva (AZE), who already competed in the morning, Melitina Staniouta and Liubov Charkashyna  (both BLR).

While the difference between second placed Daria Kondakova and Garaeva on third is already 0.825 points, Silviya Miteva (BUL) on eighth place lays only 0.700 points behind Garaeva. The competitor´s field behind the two Russian is extremely close what will make the decision about the bronze medal on Friday at the all-around very interesting.

* TUESDAY, Sep 20 - Apparatus Finals Hoop and Ball

In the evening, from 20h local time the first medal decisions will take place, the apparatus finals for the best eight gymnasts with hoop and ball. Exactly like in the team event, the two Russian girls (only two gymnasts per country are allowed in the finals) will be hard to beat, but the fight for bronze will be very interesting as nearly all other six gymnasts might have the chance to win the medal if they do perfect routines.
