Russias Victoria KOMOVA dominated the concurrence

After the Monday's qualification rounds of the boys on Tuesday the young girls started their preliminaries with 3 subdivisions, on the high-tech podium, constructed and supervised - like in Beijing two years ago - by the Dutch co. Janssen-Fritsen: The same top conditions like for the world's elite gymnasts.
The absolutely best of the of the preliminaries was the Russian European Junior Champion Victoria KOMOVA, who scored 61.000 (!) points, nearly 3 points more than at her victotory in Birmingham in spring and also as the second placed Chinese TAN, Sixin (58,100).
On third came the Italian Carlota FERLITO, but with a sensationally difference of - 5.25 points to the leader, already...!
Behind the top trio follow the Romanian Laura BULIMAR (ROU), the Dutch Tess MOONEN and, as a suprise, a girl from Guatemala, Sophie GOMEZ , with a score of 54,500 Punkten.
Qualification determined the 18 participants for the All-around Finals as well as the eight finalists on each apparatus.
Spectators were absolutely thrilled by their spectacular performances, and the dedication these young gymnasts have for their sport was most certainly an inspiration to the many kids in the crowd.
The Qualification started with hesitation, and it took the gymnasts some time to embrace their usual confidence. However, as the competition unfolded and with subdivision two and three featuring this event’s favourites, excitement grew to a high level of entertainment.

* Here is what happened:
+ SUBDIVISION I:
The first heat lined up African Junior Champion Claudia Cummins (RSA) and Korean Kyungjin Park, who placed 6th at the Asian Junior Championships. Claudia did fairly well, with Floor being her best apparatus; 12.800 points and rank twelve. Kyungjin had a rather shaky start on Uneven Bars but gave an ambitious routine on Beam and was graceful on Floor; in the end, she had to accept deductions for a misstep on the landing in a tumbling series. Overall, she placed 18th, just making the cut.
Singaporean Rachel Giam started off on Vault and moved on to Uneven Bars, where she showed a rather short and simple routine before performing on her best apparatus, the Beam. She earned avid support from the public for her strong routine. Impressively focused, the youngest athlete on the Singaporean YOG team concluded her appearance on Floor, where she got the crowd going to a lively beat. Rachel failed to qualify for the Finals, but she can be proud of her performance at this significant competition in her young life, just as Singapore is proud of her!
The two top scorers in this subdivision, Sweden’s Jonna Adlerteg and Spain’s Maria Vargas, actually made it to the All-around Final in 9th and 17th position. While Maria thinks she did not show her best today, Jonna shone brightly on Beam with a very smooth and clean routine that literally catapulted her to the Apparatus Finals. Her flawless execution and sound landings in her tumbling elements helped her to qualify on Floor, and a 13.350 point score on Uneven Bars secured her another Final spot. Great job!

+ SUBDIVISION II:
Subdivision two featured top players from China, Romania, the Netherlands, Australia and Japan, and by the end of rotation four Jonna (SWE) was the only competitor remaining among the top five from the previous heat.
Australia’s Angela Donald, loved by the crowd, impressed with consistency and clean routines, especially on Uneven Bars and Beam, where she qualified for the Apparatus Finals. Her overall score of 54.050 placed her in a comfortable seventh rank All-around.
Tess Moonen (NED) proved her excellence qualifying on Vault, Uneven Bars and Floor today! In the All-around, she was outclassed only by Tan Sixin (CHN) and Diana Bulimar (ROU) in her heat. She finished fifth (54.250) in the end. Tan and Diana caught everyone’s eye with spectacular performances in this heat. Tan won All-around Silver at the Asian Junior Championships and Diana came in fourth at the equivalent event in Europe. Today, the Chinese gymnast presented a sophisticated routine on Uneven Bars with spectacular transitions between the bars and complex changes in grips. She also stood out on Beam with a very ambitious routine and good balance. Her 15.500 was the top score on this apparatus. On Floor, Tan impressed with her high speed, spectacular tumbles and rotations with clean landings. She moved gracefully through beautiful choreography. Tan secured three Apparatus Finals and the All-around for which she qualified second.
Apart from Beam, Diana qualified for all Finals with her best apparatus being Uneven Bars and Floor, where she took third place. "I was happy with almost everything I did, except for the Beam,” she said after the competition. Diana has concrete expectations for the Finals: "I want a medal on Floor and a medal in the All-around,” she says.

If you thought you’d seen it all during the first two sessions, you were mistaken! European Junior All-around Champion Viktoria Komova of Russia was still to come, joined by Canadian Madeline Gardiner and a surprise package with Carlotta Ferlito (ITA) and Ana Sofia Gomez Porras of Guatemala.

+ SUBDIVISION III:
Viktoria Komova (RUS) nailed it all tonight, scoring an overall amazing 61.000 points, leaving her contenders in her wake, and qualifying for all the Finals. Fabulous!
Viktoria can make even the most complex routine on Beam look so easy, and she rocked the house with her wonderfully fluid and graceful Floor performance.

Madeline Gardiner (CAN) brought a fresh and innovative touch to her creatively designed routines. She moved like a dancer on the Beam, with shows of flexibility and fluidity. And on Floor she combined choreography and body movement in an impressive and energetic way. Madeline placed 8th overall and qualified for the Vault, Uneven Bars and Beam Finals. An outstanding result.

Ana Sofia Gomez Porras (GUA) was the dark horse of this competition, surprising everyone with crisp performances peppered with a good degree of difficulty. She delivered a nearly perfect routine on Floor, with great tumbling and graceful movements coinciding with the music. Ana Sofia’s impressive performances qualified her on Floor and Beam, and she settled 6th overall. This is wonderful news for a country like Guatemala, which works hard to develop gymnastics within its own borders!
Last but certainly not least, Carlotta Ferlito (ITA) amazed the crowd tonight. She should have been counted in, having made a name for herself in her home country and performed well at the Europeans (8th), but the young Italian’s full-fledged success still came as a bit of a surprise to many. She qualified for every Apparatus Final and came in third overall (55.750). A serious contender for an All-around medal on Thursday. Keep an eye on her!
Interestingly and in contrast to the boys yesterday, we see the same names qualified for the All-around Final as for the Apparatus Finals.
