Marian Dragulescu (ROM)

Floor was a high class final with only one missed routine (Savenkov).
Dragulescu won deservedly showing intricate tumbling (double layout punch front to prone mount; double-double dismount).
31-year-old Jordan Jovchev (BUL) just narrowly missed out on gold - he also displaed some great tumbles - whip to layout Thomas; double layout dismount.

7 ANDERGASSEN Thomas  GER 9,675
8 URZICA Marius Daniel  ROM 9,625

<< BUSNARI - unterliegt mit 13 Tausendsteln!!

Hot favourite Marius Urzica missed his opening sequence, has to adjust his hand placement, and drops his start value to 9,9. Apart from that, all the finalists were very close.
Ioan Suciu is the new European champion, however some experts in the arena saw Italian Alberto Busnari in first place. Perhaps a tie might have been a good solution.

STILL RINGS
1 TAMPAKOS Dimosthenis  GRE 9,775
1 SAFOSHKIN Alexander  RUS 9,775
3 MORANDI Matteo  ITA 9,750
4 JOVTCHEV Jordan  BUL 9,712
5 VAN GELDER Yuri  NED 9,700
6 ZOZULIA Roman  UKR 9,650
SCHWEIZER Andreas  SUI 9,650
8 CHECHI Yuri  ITA 9,600

Tampakos (GRE)

Two champions on rings might be ok, but the experts saw Matteo Morandi (ITA) and Juri van Gelder (NED) in first place. The judges disagreed. Whether these was "pre-Olympic" laureals for Tambakos or making up for Russian disappointments in the competition, for Safoshkin - the strength holds of these two were too short and should have been deducted. Chechi competed better than in the team competition but still had to make corrections on his giants, his eighth place is ok.

<< Dragulescu (ROM)

Filip Ianev (BUL) starts with a Yurchenko 2 1/2 with a step forward on landing. On his second vault he fell forward and stepped over the line. He was in the lead for a long time until Yevgeni Sapronenko of Latvia threw two ten tarif vaults - handspring - double front 1 /2 twist and Tsukahara double pike. Sapronenko took steps on both vaults and did enough for silver.
Marian Dragulescu entered with a bang when he nailed his signature vault handspring double front half twist. he did not quite finish the twist on his Tsukahara 2 1/2 twists.
Leszek Blanik could have won this event, but took steps on both his handsping double front pike and Tsukahara double pike. It is noteworthy that Darren Gerrard (GBR) placed fifth with a Tsukahara double pike and a handspring double front.

3 CUCHERAT Yann  FRA 9,712
4 KRYUKOV Nikolai  RUS 9,675

7 ANDERGASSEN Thomas  GER 9,500
8 SAVENKOV Denis  BLR 9,462

Roman Zozulia (UKR)

Mitja Petkovsek was clearly the hot favourite to take the title in front of an estatic home crowd. But problems after his giant half and a step on his double pike dimsount dropped him all the way to fifth place. Instead, Ukraine - without a medal in the senior competition so far - took home gold and silver.
Roman Zozulia won the title with a tight and dynamic routine and was clearly delighted.
Valeri Goncharov, who returned to the Ukrainian team after a longer stint with Cirque du Soleil, took the silver for a routine that included a double back pike between the rails and a healy from one rail.
Marius Urzica had another disappointing performance.

HIGH BAR
1 PEGAN Aljaz SLO 9,787
1 MARAS Vlasios GRE 9,787
3 SCHAERER Christoph SUI 9,687
4 CARBALLO Jesus  ESP 9,662
5 CUCHERAT Yann FRA 9,650
6 GAVEIKA Linas LTU 9,525
7 GONCHAROV Valeri UKR 8,737
8 POZZO Enrico  ITA 7,762

Vlassios Maras, the high bar champion in Ghent 2001 and Debrecen 2002, was impressive with a Pegan which he swung out of beautifully. He was in the lead until the last gymnast.
Aljaz Pegan then showed his "Pegan" well and even if he had a small step on his triple back dismount, the two European champions deserved their title. Pegan's gold is a fitting end of a well organised and excellent championship.
Swiss Christoph Schaerer wowed the crowd with a full-twisting layout Jäger - bronze medal for him!
Jesus Carballo also showed an impressive routine but his dismount - only a full-twisting double back - did not match the rest of his routine in difficulty.
Valeri Goncharov threw a Kolman to Kovas, but fell during his routine.
