« Lions » de la gymnastique quittent Dakar aujourd’hui pour Le
Caire (Egypte) où ils participeront du 29 janvier au 5 février
2009, aux championnats d’Afrique. Hier à Thiès, ils ont reçu la
visite du ministre des Sports et des Loisirs, le Dr Bacar Dia,
dans la salle de gymnase du Centre national d’éducation populaire
et sportive (CNEPS) où ils sont en préparation depuis une dizaine

Young gymnasts off to Egypt

(Namibia Sport): A team of 25
gymnasts leave for Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday to represent Namibia
at the ninth African Gymnastics Championships. Namibia will
compete in the men’s junior and women’s junior and senior artistic
competitions, and the women’s junior and senior rhythmic
competitions.
Although Namibia will be represented by a young team against the
continent’s best nations’ they are still hopeful of winning some

broadcaster threatens to drop small sports in Olympics standoff
January 27, 2009
(International Herald Tribune): One
of Germany's two major public service broadcasters, ARD, has
threatened to drop coverage of smaller Olympic sports if it is
excluded from carrying the 2014 and 2016 Games.
The ARD network is a member of the European Broadcasting Union, an
umbrella body whose bid for the 2014 and 2016 broadcast rights was
turned down late last year by the International Olympic Committee.

Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge has hailed
Monday’s meeting between the Olympic Movement and the European
Commission (EC) as an “important step” in the bid to develop
closer relations between the worlds of sport and politics.
Representatives of the Olympic Movement, led by Rogge, met with
Jan Figel, European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture
and Youth, and his delegation at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne.

President: London 2012 shouldn't be reduced

International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge said
Sunday that the scale of 2012 London Olympic Games should not be
reduced.
Rogge said on Swiss television TSR late Sunday that London 2012
did not overshot its budget, the London organizing Committee was
simply resorting to a reserve fund after planned use of private
sector funding for the Olympic village proved to be "difficult."
