* fig- WC Report:
Competing at her first World Cup event in two years, World Aerobic silver medallist Oana Constantin served notice that she will be among the challengers for the World title next month in Incheon, Korea. Absent from the first two World Cups of the season, the reigning World silver medallist took the Cantanhede World Cup title in Portugal this past weekend, topping teammate Bianca Gorgovan by a healthy half point margin to resolidify her place among Aerobic's upper echelon. Constantin, 25, has been Romania's top Aerobic gymnast for the past several years. Her accolades are numerous: In addition to numerous World Cup titles, she won the World Games in 2013 and the European title in 2015, and spearheaded the Romanian effort that led to three gold medals at the 2014 World Championships in Cancun. The coveted World All-around title is the only jewel not in her crown.
“For me this World Cup in Portugal is the last checkpoint before the World Championships in Korea. My goal was to do the Individual and Trio competitions without failure, and to get the best scores in Execution and Artistry. With the help of my coaches, I reached my goals for this competition and I can say I’m ready for the World Championships," Constantin said. "I am going back to the gym to correct the small mistakes I still have and improve everything.”
