20-Mar-2005:  Second Finals' Day in Cottbus

On the secon and last day of the 29th Tournament of Masters in Cottbus Yuri van Gelder (NED) secured himself the victory on rings with a very strong performance. 

The victory on vault went to Lu Bin from China.

After his success on pommel horse - it was the 4th time winning here in Cottbus from 2002 on - yesterday Marius Urzica (ROM) today won the  gold medal on pommel horse again.

In the women's field, the new national all-around champion Yulia Lozhechko from Russia won on balance beam. 

The victory on floor went to Monica Mersalles from Spain.

19-Mar-2005:  First Finals' day in Cottbus

The first finals’ day in  Cottbus took place yesterday and the audience got to see high-quality performances. The victory on floor went to Switzerland with Patrick Dominguez. On pommel horse Marius Urzica presented another great performance in his career which clearly secured him the victory. The first place on high-bar went to Isao Yoneda (JPN), a slight mistake cost Fabian Hambüchen (GER) all chances on the victory.

In the women’s field the young Brazilian talent Lais Souza won on vault, Oksana Chusovitina fell on the second vault and therefore couldn’t repeat her good performance of the qualification. The victory on uneven bars went to China with Fan Ye who presented a beautifull and difficult routine.

18-Mar-2005:  Qualification day in Cottbus is over

A long qualification day in Cottbus is over. The audience got to see another success of Oksana Chussovitina in her long career, she won the qualification on vault today. Russia's Anna Pavlova presented herself well but not perfectly today. She will new chances in the finales on vault,beam and floor. 

In the men's field Germany's young star Fabian Hambüchen won the qualification on high bar and will have good chances to win also tomorrow's finale. 

The audience got to see quite a few high-quality performances especially on high-bar and men's vault.

The first delegations, including the top gymnastics nation China, Canda and Brazil, arrived in Cottbus on Tuesday already. 
Most of the other participants from more than 40 nations (!) will arrive on Wednesday, the last ones on Thursday.
The qualification round will begin on Friday at 1 p.m.
Ronny ZIESMER, the paralyzed German gymnast from Cottbus, will also visit the tournament on Saturday and will open the first finals' day.

The German TV station "rbb" will transmit the event and tournament director Sylvio KROLL hopes for a 
"full house" in the venue Lausitz Arena at the upcoming weekend!

With just ten days to go until the World Cup in Cottbus, the local organisers have announced several changes to the competitors’ roster.
Romania’s top star, Marian Dragulescu, unfortunately has elected to skip the tournament. Taking his place is Razvan Selariu, his compatriot from the Olympic bronze medal team that fell just short of reaching the vault finals in Athens.
Greece is sending Vasileios Tsolakidis, who gained an international reputation as a parallel bars virtuoso with his 2002 European Championship title in Patras.

The German Gymnastics Association has also announced the World Cup debut of Annika Pfeffer and Kim Bui. Less than one year ago, both women were members of the German team that took 10th place in the European Junior Championship. Annika Pfeffer placed 16th in the European Junior Women’s all-around.

oday the organizers of the Cottbus World Cup confirmed the participation of the Romanian superstars:
Three-time Olympic champion Catalina PONOR (Team, beam, floor), Olympic vault champion Monica ROSU, pommel horse legend  Marius Urzica, Ioan SUCIU and the "NUMBER 1" of the GYMmedia World Ranking List and Olympic silver medallist (vault)  Marian DRAGULESCU . Considering the men's entry field on vault this means that four from the best six athletes of the Olympic vault final will come to Cottbus...!

27-FEB-2005:  American Cup - Test for Cottbus Tournament....

The 30th American Cup held in Nassau, Long Island/USA at the last weekend in February and the 29th International Tournament of Masters in Cottbus are the most traditional top events of artistic gymnastics worldwide.
Athletes from 19 nations visited the American Cup - the German hosts in Cottbus will welcome gymnasts from 43 nations from March 18 - 20, 2005.

24-FEB-2005:  Participants in Cottbus 2005
After the retirement of Svetlana Khorkina the current NUMBER ONE of the  GYMmedia-WORLD RANKING LIST, Anna Pavlova (RUS), is the leading gymnast on top of the participants' list of the Cottbus tournament.
Further top stars will be the World champion on floor Daiane dos Santos (5th in the Olympic final 2004) and her strong teammate Daniele Hypolito (12th AA in Athens 2004).

A super trio will come from China with the Olympians FAN, Ye, WANG, Tiantian and also newcomer  YANG, Yahong.

TThe fifth- ranked of last years' Olympic AA final Rafael Martinez and the former high bar world champions  Vlasios Maras from Greece and Yani Tanskanen from Finland will be famous participants of the Tournament of Masters in Cottbus in March.
The USA will send the winners of the national Winter Cup this year David Durante und Guillermo Alvarez. Also the Polish world star on vault Leszek Blanik will be one of the stars in Cottbus like also parallel bars specialist Mitja Petkovsek from Slovania and  Yernar Yerimbetov from Kasakhstan.
Fabian Hambuechen and the local gymnast Robert Juckel will start for Germany.

At the end of January gymnasts from 41 countries from all continents have confirmed their participation in the third world cup of the new circuit (after DTB Cup and American Cup) - the "29th TURNIER DER MEISTER 2005", the first top event in Europe this year.
Tournament Director Sylvio KROLL hopes that also stars from China and Japan will come to Cottbus like also the gymnasts of Romania and Ukraine.
February the 18th is the last date for official entries.

Father and son Hambuechen:
Ready to go to  Cottbus

Today the German head coach Andreas Hirsch announced that the Germans plan to send their strongest gymnasts to the Cottbus tournament.
"It is clear that we are planning to send our strongest team - including our youngster Fabian Hambuechen - to the Cottbus world cup in March", he said to GYMmedia, "and also Robert Juckel from the local club in Cottbus has a chance to compete in front of home crowd, provided both of them are in shape and won't be injured".
Also the paralyzed German gymnast Ronny Ziesmer plans to visit the world cup event in March.
9.6 million TV- viewers in Germany saw the Olympic high bar final in Athens, 24.82 saw the TV reports from the last DTB Cup in Stuttgart. 
So the Cottbus organisers hope that also the host broadcaster, the TV-station "rbb" (Berlin/Brandenburg), will work on a new media success in Cottbus!
The young German talent Fabian starts into the new year at the American Cup (Nassau, Long Island/USA) at Februar 26 - 27.

.... the first world cup event of the new calendar 2005

The most traditional German world cup event - the "29th TOURNAMENT OF MASTERS 2005" - will take place from March 18 to 20, 2005.
It will be a world cup event of the category B which means a price money of 25,000 Swiss France will be handed out.
Tournament Director Sylvio Kroll explained that the organizing committee decided:
No more winners final in 2005, only the finals with eight participants according to the FIG world cup rules.
