... the youngest festival participant from England was not yet 2 years old! |
To paraphrase a quote from a German politician after the end of World War II, and in view of the current social turmoil on our continent, one could say:
‘Peoples of Europe: Look to this festival!’
While an aggressor wages war on European soil and general discontent seems to be spreading, here at the 63rd BLUME FESTIVAL, over 2,000 participants from 12 European nations and over 50 Canarian sports groups came together and peacefully waved their flags in circles of friendship and solidarity on the show stage of the Yumbo Commercial Centre:
For example, young, talented Ukrainian gymnasts competed in German groups alongside amateur athletes of all ages from Great Britain and together with senior citizens from Denmark and Switzerland, inspired by nothing other than peaceful coexistence between generations and nations
For this reason alone, this festival idea with heart (‘con corazon’), which has been in place for over six decades and so clearly demonstrates the unifying power of sport, deserves the utmost respect: Some representatives of the European Union should also come here to find new motivation for their political actions ...!

Do you know what ‘JAKADUWO’ in German means ...?
It's simple: "JAmmern KAnnst DU WOanders! ‘ (Go whinge somewhere else!)
This term, coined by a really dynamicgroup of women in Hamburg,
has been around for two decades.

Because there was no other women's group like it in Hamburg at the time, they got together in Hamburg Niendorf.
After being discovered at an ideas exchange, they took part in the national competition ‘Rendezvous der Besten’ (Rendezvous of the Best) and made a positive impression there. Over the years, ideas and, of course, further developments of the group's content came about. In the meantime, the overall team in construction worker outfits has become a funny show act that was so well received at this year's ‘Rendezvous der Besten’ in Germany that they were awarded flight tickets to the Blume Festival.
One of today's creators even belonged to the Olympic artistic gymnastics team of the Federal Republic of Germany, which ranked eighth at the 1972 Games in Munich: Ulrike WEYH belonged to the ‘Gut Heil Itzehoe’ club at the time and was once discovered by former national coach of former FRG Horst Goll. In the photo on the right, she is the one with her arms raised highest.

Also participating in the BLUME Festival for the first time, and with an impressive female contingent of 44 athletic and youthful ladies from the cantonal group ‘SenVital’ of the Zurich Gymnastics Association (ZTV).

Although the ladies only meet once a month, they impressed the audience with their harmonious choreography, which was well worth seeing. Performances are already planned for next year at the Golden Age Festival in Les Sables-d'Olonne (FRA; 4-9 October) and at the World Gymnastrada in Lisbon (11-17 July 2027).

Once again, the performances by SKC Tabea Halle were among the sporting highlights of every Blume.Show. The gymnasts from Halle in Saxony-Anhalt in Germany tested parts of their programme for their annual Tabea Show, which is dedicated to the fairy tale character ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and will take place on 13/14 December in the Georg-Friedrich Haendel Hall.

The creative talent of Ukrainian Mariia Kharchenko is particularly impressive.
She fled the war in her home country four years ago, now speaks perfect German and is attending the 5th grade at the sports school in Halle.

One of the remarkable results of more than six decades of this BLUME festival movement
is the enormous development of popular sports in the communities and towns
of Gran Canaria, virtually from scratch! Hats off!

This local women's group, along with a few brave gentlemen, provided the colourful finale to a vibrant and atmospheric two-hour programme, which will be repeated in a similar form on many stages across the island of Gran Canaria during this festival week.

* The BLUME Festival opening show at the Yunbo Centre in the tourist metropolis of Maspalomas was streamed LIVE on Sunday by Canarian Island TV, ‘TakTelevision’, and is now available here → as ‘video on demand’.
One of the many sporting highlights was the choreography by the German sports and culture club SKC ‘Tabea Halle’, as a preview of their Tabea-Show "DORNROESCHEN" (the fairy tale "Sleeping Beauty") in the Georg Friedrich Haendel Hall of their German hometown Halle / Sa. town on December 13+14.
