YAN Langyu (CHN) - new World champion |
Three gymnastics world championships in one year - that’s never happened before!
After the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, the World Gymnastics Championships and the World Gymnastics Championships in Kitakyushu, the gymnastics world looked to the third world championship of the gymnastics disciplines in the same year, to the 35th Trampoline World Championships in 2021, which took place from 18th to 21st November in Baku (AZE).
On the last of the three days of the final, the 22-year-old Chinese YAN Langyu won World Championship gold in the men's Olympic trampoline class ahead of Ryusei NISHIOKA from Japan and Aleh RABTSAU from Belarus.
The British Bryony PAGE prevented a second Chinese success in the women and became world champion ahead of CAO, Yunzhu (CHN) and the Russian Iana LEBEDEVA.
The day before there was surprisingly silver in the men's synchronized competition for the German couple Fabian VOGEL / Matthias PFLEIDERER behind the world champion duo Andrei BOULOU / Aleh RABTSAU (BLR). Women's synchronized gold got HU Yicheng / ZHANG Xinxin from China .
With 4x gold the Russian "RGF-Team" was again the most successful nation. 3 wins went to Belarus, China, Great Britain and Japan each won 2x gold. Sweden and the USA each won gold once.

* PREVIEW ---: Olympic champion Ivan Litvinovich (BLR) and Tokyo 2020 medallists Bryony Page (GBR) and Dylan Schmidt (NZL) headline this month’s Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships, 18-21 November in Baku (AZE). Fifteen titles are up for grabs at the World Championships, the first major international event in the discipline since the Olympics, where Ivan Litvinovich (BLR) took men’s gold and Bryony Page (GBR) and Dylan Schmidt (NZL) both earned bronze medals. Altogether, more than 250 athletes from Trampoline’s four disciplines — Individual, Synchronised, Double Mini-trampoline (DMT), and Tumbling — have registered to compete.
The absence of four-time champion Gao Lei (CHN) means a new champion is guaranteed in men’s Individual Trampoline, where a Chinese gymnast has captured the title every year since 2006. Two women’s World champions — reigning winner Mori Hikaru (JPN) and 2017 champion Tatsiana Piatrenia (BLR), now 40 and back after a three-year absence — are slated to compete.
Returning to the world stage is a homecoming of sorts for Bryony Page (GBR), who will be performing at her eighth World Championships in Baku. “After a whole decade since my first World Championships, I’m still really looking forward to making more memories whilst competing for my country,” she wrote on Instagram. Though Page owns three World medals, including team gold from 2013, she has yet to claim an individual medal.
Other returning champions include Double Mini superstar Mikhail Zalomin (RGF), who has won five of the last six World titles in his discipline and two-time DMT world champion Lina Sjoeberg (SWE). The Tumbling line-up includes the 2013, 2018, and 2019 world champions Kristof Willerton (GBR), Vadim Afanasev (RGF) and Aleksandr Lisitsyn (RGF) in the men’s competition, as well as reigning champion Viktoriia Danilenko (RGF) on the women’s side.
2019 women’s Synchronised Trampoline gold medallist Takagi Yumi (JPN) will jump this year alongside new partner Tanaka Saki (JPN). Team gold medallists Tristan van Natta (USA, DMT), Aleksandr Odintsov (RGF, DMT), Elliott Browne (GBR, Tumbling), and Shanice Davidson (GBR, Tumbling) will compete as well.
