2017 Europeans of Rhythmic Gymnastics

Today, Sunday, May 21, the Rhythmic Europeans finished at Budapest’s Papp Laszlo Sports Arena. The Hungarian capital was hosting the continental championships to the second time in history after 1999, when Alina Kabayeva was the dominant star. With the retirement of leading lady Yana Kudryavtseva and Olympic Champion Margarita Mamun and Ukraine’s Ganna Rizatdinova enjoying a well-deserved rest, the floor is open for the next generation to become the stars of Europe, and of the Rhythmic world in its entirety. In fact only 2 former European individual medalists are on the roster in Budapest: Belarussian Katsiaryna Halkina and Azerbaijan’s Marina Durunda!
36 Federations traveled to Hungary to challenge for the first European titles of the new Olympic cycle. A total of 231 gymnasts are scheduled to compete, 82 senior individuals and 149 gymnasts form junior groups from 28 different countries.
