* f i g --: A raft of retirements from top international competitors and uncertainty about the return of the Olympic champion has left the door open for new stars to rise in Rhythmic Gymnastics. Rio Olympic gold medallist Margarita Mamun of Russia won’t be suiting up for this weekend’s World Cup in Pesaro (ITA) in the same arena that will host the World Championships four months from now. Neither will now-retired Yana Kudryavtseva, the dominating force who won 13 of the 17 gold medals given out at World Championships during the last Olympic cycle. The event started with qualification rounds on Friday and will be finished with the finals on Sunday, April 9.
