Following on from 2021, the Bulgarian Black Sea city of Varna hosts the 42nd European Continental Championships for the second time in 2026 – also the first time Bulgaria has hosted the event.
The first day of senior finals in Varna delivered an exciting and unforgettable All-Around competition. In front of an enthusiastic Bulgarian crowd, the battle for the European title quickly became a thrilling duel between Germany’s Darja Varfolomeev and home favorite Stiliana Nikolova.Throughout the competition, both gymnasts showcased exceptional performances, combining technical excellence, artistry, and composure under pressure. Supported by the energy of the home audience, Nikolova pushed the reigning Olympic champion to her limits, creating one of the highlights of the championships so far.

In the end, it was Germany's Darja Varfolomeev who claimed the Senior All-Around European title, ahead of local hero Stiliana Nikolova, who secured the silver medal, while Ukraine’s Taisiia Onofriichuk completed the podium with a well-deserved bronze medal.With this victory, Darja Varfolomeev further strengthens her place among the greatest names in rhythmic gymnastics. The German star is already the reigning Olympic All-Around Champion and a multiple World All-Around Champion, and she now adds the European All-Around crown to her impressive list of achievements, confirming her dominance on the international stage.
In the group apparatus finals, Spain won the all-around decision, but also swept both European titles of the last final day: In the 5 Balls final, Belarus claimed the silver medal, while Israel secured bronze. In the 3 Hoops and 2 Clubs final, Russia took silver, with Israel earning its second bronze medal of the competition in the group events.
* The competition kicked off with the junior women’s events on 27–28 May, followed by the elite categories through to the finals on 31 May.
** E C h - M O D E -: Senior Individuals 1 to 3 gymnasts can compete per National Federation, presenting maximum 8 exercises. If a national federation participates with only 1 gymnast, she must present an exercise with all 4 apparatus and does not qualify for the team ranking. The best 8 per apparatus compete in the Apparatus finals. The best 3 scores count towards the all-around ranking. The best 20 advance to the All-Around final, plus 1 gymnast from the host nation if not yet qualified. In the all-around final, all finalists perform with hoop and ball.
NEW: The top 10 after those two apparatus advance to the second part where they will perform with clubs and ribbon. The total of the scores determine the ranking. The best 8 per apparatus compete in the Apparatus finals.
Senior Group Groups perform two routines in qualifications: 5 Ball & 3 Hoops / 2 pairs of Clubs. The combined score determines the All-Around ranking. The best 8 groups per apparatus advance to the apparatus finals.

Defending European champions Spain, who will also host the next European Championships in Pamplona from 12–16 May 2027, made history once again by securing another Group All-Around gold medal. The Spanish team delivered one of the most dominant performances ever seen in a Group All-Around competition, finishing comfortably ahead of their rivals. Russia claimed the silver medal, while Israel completed the podium in third place.
