(4) 2017 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Sofia
  - Sofia, Bulgaria;  May 05 - 07  -

* fig-report---: With an Olympic Games under her belt and Rhythmic World Cup success coming her way, Bulgaria’s Neviana Vladinova has established herself as one of the rising young stars of Rhythmic in 2017.
Vladinova was the queen of last weekend’s Sofia World Cup, taking four gold medals (All-around, Hoop, Ball, Ribbon) as well as a special prize voted by journalists that included a real tiara. It was her second time on the All-around podium at a World Cup in the space of a week; the 23-year-old after a bronze medal finish in Baku. Vladinova and countrywoman Katrin Taseva, 20 -- who took three medals of her own in Sofia -- are gearing up for the European Championships May 19-21 in Budapest. Beyond that, August’s World Championships in Pesaro (ITA) loom on the horizon. “I feel very happy because I work very hard,” Vladinova said after competition concluded in Sofia. “For this new season I had to make the body difficulties better and include more risks and mastery in my exercises. The competition between the potential winners at the European Championships in Budapest makes me work harder and harder. I feel the support of the public and I am getting stronger."
Rhythmic Gymnastics enjoys wide popularity in Bulgaria, which has produced numerous champions, including Bianca Panova, the first gymnast ever to sweep all five titles at a World Championships, an exploit she accomplished in 1987. Maria Gigova and Maria Petrova, two ingenues of the celebrated Bulgarian school from the 1970s and 1990s, respectively, are two of only four women to have won three world titles in the All-around. Gigova, who turned 70 last month, was honored during the competition in Sofia, where a short film about her life was shown during the opening ceremony.
