Personnel: Eddie van Hoof changes from Great Britain to Canada

"Gymnastics Canada" announce that Eddie VAN HOOF, the Technical Director and Head Coach behind the success of the British men’s artistic gymnastics team since 2006, will be joining the Canadian team immediately as the new Head National Team Coach for Men’s Artistic Gymnastics.
Van Hoof, head coach of the British team from 2006 - 2018, was named United Kingdom coach of the year in 2016 after guiding the British team to a record seven-medal, but he was sacked in 2018 February after a breakdown in relations with James Thomas, who took over as performance director after the Games. In May this year British Gymnastics has agreed to pay a substantial sum in compensation to Eddie Van Hoof, who was made an MBE and named UK’s coach.
"The opportunity to recruit Eddie to the program is significant in respect to not only the quality of technical knowledge that he possesses, but also his proven track record of success at the highest levels of World Championship and Olympic performance,” said Ian Moss, Interim CEO and High Performance Director for Gymnastics Canada. “There is no question that Eddie will be a strong mentor for our high performance athletes and coaches and, I believe, will give us the vision and drive to achieve our goals of team qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games and beyond.”
