"Ghosts" - ECh 2021 in front of empty bleachers

The local Swiss Organizing Committee (LOC), in coordination with European Gymnastics and the authorities of the Swiss cantons of Basel-City and Basel-Country, have decided to hold the 2021 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships from April 21 to 25 in Basel's St. Jakobshalle without spectators perform.
In return, these continental competitions in the Olympic year should be shown on the internet and on television, because the interest in participating in the European Championships remains high: A total of 159 men and 107 women from 38 nations have registered.
The Swiss hosts have to cope with a one million Swiss franc deficit due to the audience failure. Under corona conditions, the participants are in a bubble throughout the tournament. Everyone must arrive with a negative PCR test and are only allowed to stay in the tournament hotels. Movement using shuttles is only possible to a limited extent from the hotel to the hall and vice versa. The athletes must eat in the hall under the conditions that the organizers have created for this in compliance with the hygienic conditions.
The Swiss organizers had to deal with an extremely difficult planning phase so far.
With 3 wins in the men and two successes in the women, Russia was, as expected, the most successful nation at the European Championships.
With 3 gold medals in the men's and two successes in the women's finals, Russia was, as expected, the most successful nation at the end of 2021  European Championships in Basel Switzerland
