Mikhail Voronin passed away!

- born 26-March-1945

At the age of only 59 years Olympic and former world champion Mikhail Voronin (RUS) passed away Saturday after a long period of illness.
Voronin was one of the most successful gymnasts in history.
His first all-around title he won at the 1966 World Championships, was the 8 times medallist at the 1966-1970 World Championships as well as at both the 1967 and 1969 European Championships....

At the 1968 Olympic Games, Mexico City (MEX) Voronin won two gold medals and all-around silver in the the Soviet Union team ...

Mikhail Voronin had also ten medals at 1968-1972 on Olympic Games.
Following his retirement, Voronin remained involved in gymnastics.
In 1973 he finished the Lenin Sports Institute and later he received the title of a 'Honored Coach of the Soviet Union' in 1979 and other national awards.
He was the long-time director of the 'Dynamo School Of Gymnastics' in Moscow. Gymnastics Club of Dynamo created from generations to generation the great International class gymnast of Olympian and World Champions like names Alexander Tkachev and Alexei Bondarenko, Ludmilla Yeshova, Anna Pavlova....

The 'International Voronin Cup', an international competition in honor of Mikhail Voronin, is held in Moscow annually, at last in December 2003,
and the 12th anniversary 2005, December 15-16
