At the end of last week Romania's prime minister Adrian Nastase handed over the price money to the highly successful gymnasts of his country in Bucharest.
The big-income earner was the most successful gymnast Catalina Ponor with her 3 gold medals - team, beam, floor. Monica Rosu became Olympic Champion on vault, Daniela Sofronie won silver on floor and Alexandra Eremia bronze on beam.

In the men's field Marian Dragulescu won silver on floor and bronze...

South Korea protests- FIG mediates - IOC maintains a low profile

WIth a one-week delay the leaders of the South Korean delegation have now addressed to the International Court of Arbitration for Sports CAS. They demand the gold-medal in the gymnastics all-around final for Yang Tae Young.
With this raising of an objection the Korean delegation wants to prevent a decision of the judges which according to them was obviously wrong...

The US Gymnastics Federatian has refered to a letter from FIG- president Bruno Grandi as 'outrageous request'.
In the letter Grandi advised the Olympic all-around winner Paul Hamm 'for reasons of fairness' to hand over his gold medal to the 3rd- ranked Yang, Tae Young from South Korea...

Matthias Volz,, member of the German Olympic team from 1936 and 3-time medalist at these Olympic Games died on Thursday in Berlin at the age of 94.
Volz won gold with the team and bronze on vault and on rings.
Until the end he followed the present developments in gymnastics.
The last still living member of the 1936 gold medal team now is Walther Steffens at the age of 96...

In view of the judging scandals in the Olympic men’s artistic gymnastics competitions the most successful coach of the World Leonid Arkaev has asked for changes to be made. In an interview the president of the Russian gymnastics federation explained: ”Something has to happen urgently now! Maybe I shouldn’t say that but we have a mafia of judges”, this was reffered to the high-bar score of Alexei Nemov.
