WG Statement on the issue of Russian athletes’ eligibility to compete

In light of the highly contentious issue, which has been the subject of fierce debate around the world, regarding the International Olympic Committee’s handling of Russian athletes’ eligibility to compete internationally, the International Gymnastics Federation “WORLD GYMNASTICS” issued the following statement:
"World Gymnastics welcomes the decisions adopted by the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 7 July and emphasizes its longstanding belief that sport should remain independent of political considerations and continue to provide a neutral platform that fosters unity, fairness, mutual respect and solidarity among athletes and sporting communities worldwide.
In line with these principles, we stand in solidarity with all those affected by conflict and reaffirm our commitment to the values of peace, respect and international cooperation through sport.
World Gymnastics remains committed to working closely with the IOC and the wider Olympic Movement in promoting the unity and integrity of international sport."
