The yearly Winter Cup Challenge is the traditional opening of the artistic gymnastics season in the USA. This year's men's event was held at the Las Vegas Sports Center from February 8 - 10.
2006 pommel horse world bronze-medalist Alexander Artemev of Morrison, Colo./Team Chevron, and 2005-06 Winter Cup Challenge all-around champion David Durante of Garwood, N.J./Team Chevron, are among the 13 members of the current U.S. Men's Senior National Team. Seventeen athletes from the U.S. Men's Junior National Team also participated in the event. Based on performances at the Winter Cup Challenge, seven gymnasts will be added to the U.S. Men's Senior National Team.
David Sender led after the first round, the reigning U.S. national champion Alexander Artemev came second and Houston's Sean Townsend finished third after six apparatuses on the first day...
but after Saturday's second all-around Sean Townsend was the winner (Sasha Artemev from Team Chevron got only 1.50 on the high bar, thus descending to rank 32...)
