2026 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS OF ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS

For the first time, Croatia is hosting the EUROPEAN GYMNASTICS of Artistic Gymnastics, with the 47th edition for women (August 13-16) and the 48th edition for men (August 19-23) taking place in the capital, Zagreb. At the same time, the European Junior Championships for young players will be held as part of the event for the 15th time. The venue is the “Zagreb Arena”, which was built in 2008 for the 21st World Handball Championship and has since become an architectural landmark.

* Since the 1st European Women’s Gymnastics Championships in Belgrade in 1957, the 47th Women’s Continental Championships will now take place in 2026. (This figure does not include two trial competitions held as part of a mixed team European Championship featuring rhythmic in Riesa, Germany, in 2021 and in Moscow, Russia, in 2003, the format of which was not continued). Since the team competition was introduced as a biennial event at the 20th European Championships in Stockholm in 1994, the then UEG had opted for a two-part numbering system, which, however, caused confusion amongst the public.
That's why chronologically, however, the 2026 event in Zagreb will be actually the 47th European Women’s Gymnastics Championships!

Since the 1st European Men’s Gymnastics Championships in Belgrade in 1956, the 48th Men’s Continental Championships will now take place in 2026. (This does not include two trial competitions for a mixed team European Championship featuring rhythmic in Riesa, Germany, in 2021 and in Moscow, Russia, in 2003, the format of which was not continued.) Since the team competition was introduced on a biennial basis at the 22nd European Championships in Copenhagen in 1996, the then UEG had opted for a two-part numbering system, which, however, caused confusion amongst the public.
Chronologically, however, the 2026 European Men’s Gymnastics Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, will actually be the 48th MEN's ECh edition!
