The historical trip of the American descendants of the German father of gymnastics Friedrich Ludwig Jahn went for a week across Germany and found an extremely attentive, public and media interest:

Because the Potsdam Olympic champion in 20 km walking (Munich 1972), Peter Frenkel, had taken over the sponsorship for "Little Ernie" in 2002, the guests now followed - 17 years later - his invitation to visit the "Jahn Gymnasium" and the Olympic training center in the Havel city of Potsdam, near Berlin.
The guests from Illinois were impressed not only by the gallery of the many winners and medal winners of the Olympic Games and World Championships, but also by the current dynamic development of the terrain and the structure of this Olympic area, where not only a German center of the most successful canoeists is where also other athletes, like swimmers, judoka, fencers and oarsmen have their domicile. A new equipment gym is being built here for students and also for the youngest talents of artistic gymnastics. Once upon a time world famous athletes came from here, such as the inventor of the "Jaeger sault" (Bernd Jäger), the Olympic champion Holger Behrendt (Seoul 1988, still rings) or the first high bar world champion of the unit Germany, Ralf Buechner (Indianapolis 1991).

♦♦ STATION 2: BERLIN: Jahn in the Hasenheide - Felski in the Hotel

⁺ After the Potsdam Travel Overture, the American guests visited a historic site of particular importance:
<< The larger than life monument of Friedrich Ludwig Jahn in Berlin's Hasenheide. Here, more than 200 years ago, the pastor's son from Lanz / Prignitz had opened the first public gymnastics area in front of the gates of Berlin in 1811.
"Here you are at the birthplace of German gymnastics", is not only on the board at the ancient pedunculate oak in the Hasenheide, but had father Ernest Rohr his sprout long before explained it in theory.

* Junior Rohr has been here once with Mam and Father ...:

17 years ago, in the small village church of Lanz, as a barely one year old baby, on the arms of his father and under a floating angel.

Already at that time, the family Rohr from Chicago were welcomed by the landlord Wolfgang Nier - as again this time - by the now longest serving pastor of the entire Protestant church circle, now at 31 years of service.
Under the floating, baroque baptismal angel from the 17^th century his two godfathers, the unfortunately already defunct German Olympic champion Klaus Koeste and Olympic champion Peter Frenkel, had promised their support to the 11-month-old boy. Here Friedrich Ludwig Jahn's father was active from 1667 to 1711 as pastor, the historically longest service time of 44 years (!), for which the 60-year-old Wolfgang Nier would still need 13 years of office ...

* So here began the life of the old founder of gymnastics, whose son Siegfried later emigrated to America,where he founded the American Jahn's family tree line and left at home, in Germany, a deeply shocked, old father ...

♦♦ STATION 4: Gym Festival City of Leipzig- Reunion after 17 Years!

* REVIEW--: For the German Gymnastics Festival 2002, the Rohr family went with "Little Ernie" even with a "jahn-mobile" through the city:

Sponsored and designed it had the Renault dealership Mr. Joachim Ruehle. Himself he was a former gymnast at the gymnastics club SC DHfK Leipzig (German Sports University of Physical Cultur) and a former member of the GDR national artistic gymnastics team.
* But first the guests this time made a stopover in Jesewitz, near Leipzig: It was their express wish to commemorate at the grave of the Olympic champion Klaus Koeste, who died in 2012, and who, as one of the godfathers, turned the visit into an unforgettable memory.

...sad moments and silent remembrance at the tomb of the late Olympians.

What's more...: A deep friendship had been created across the Atlantic, and Klaus's widow Sabine Köste greeted the two Ernie's and mother's trowel Ann Rohr with the same emotionality that was known to her deceased husband. And not every day you get as a 18-year-old a real golden Olympic medal in the hands of a man, of course, the junior did not personally remember, but of which he had already heard so much.

At the Organizing Committee's invitation, not only was there coffee and cake in the OC Office, but OC-chief Kati Brenner made an invitation to the Rohr family, again as guests of honor for the upcoming highlight to return to the Saxon metropolis of Leipzig.

* A city-historical sports route with 22 stations is to be developed: The first two stations were already inaugurated at the end of June 2019: The starting point is the sports hall Leplaystraße. No coincidence, because the "Leppi" stands on the sport-historically significant area of the city par excellence. Since the 1830s there was the first municipal gymnastics area and thus the cradle of gymnastics and sports facilities infrastructure in Leipzig. In 1847 the first gymnasium was built on the site, in 1863 the second gym. And also the third hall, the today's sports hall Leplaystraße 11, found in 1913 place on this area between Observatory, Turner and Leplaystraße. Twenty more stations on Leipzig's historic city route are to follow ...

the Leipzig Monument to the Battle of the Nations ("Voelkerschlachtdenkmal"), which commemorates the terrible battle of 1813 against Napoleon's troops, a historical date closely related to F. L. Jahn, who dedicated important moments of his thinking and action to the struggle against the Napoleonic foreign rule.

♦♦ STATION 5: FREYBURG on the Unstrut: there are many wine towns
- a Jahn City only once in the world!

* Ernie Jr. was a little upset already, because he had already heard much from his father and his mother about the wine, sparkling wine and above all Jahn City of Freyburg on the Unstrut: from the grave of the old gymnast, so his visitnow turned out to be very emotional ...:

... ... of the last residential building and all the others historic buildings, such as Hall of Honor with the big Jahn statue and the impressive colored stained glass windows of the gymnastics history. Museum director Ms. Manuela Dietz had organized a competent, English-speaking tour of the Jahn Museum. It was very moving for the Rohr's family to stand in the living room of their ancestor with the real furniture of his time ...

... and to admire a just as authentic, more than 200 years old pommelhorse, with head and tail.

* One of the other special highlights was the reception of Freyburg's mayor Udo Maenicke, of course in the unique ambience of a wine mountain lodge, where the youngest grandson of Friedrich Ludwig Jahn - 20 years after his father - and in front of the unique panoramas of this magical city was allowed entry his signature into the "Golden Book of the city":

Certainly a significant moment for an 18-year-old youngster... with the potential to influence his future life (?) ... who knows ?!

* The "most beautiful historical wine tavern of Saxony-Anhalt", the "Kuenstlerkeller" ("artist cellar"), offered the guests the appropriate and special ambience of a city that breathes history and is still in the process of shaping the future:
in 2022, the 100^th anniversary of "Jahn Gym Festival" (Jahnturnfest) where according to Jahn's ideas of a "physical culture of the whole people" young and old - between 15 and over 90 years - still go to the gym equipment. There must have been something to it, the Jahn's ideas!
* And not only that:
Here, a modern museum building is to be built behind the Jahn Museum, in which the role of Central Germany as an important region of the emergence of the German gymnastics movement is to be appreciated.
It is only 10 km as the crow flies from here to world wide famous Naumburg Cathedral with its wellknown founder figures "Ekkehard & Uta" which became a World Heritage Site in 2018! Saxony-Anhalt tourism managers would do well to include the small, but fine Jahn Museum of Freyburg in their planning and marketing strategies.

* In any case, the public and media interest, which this year's Germany tour the Jahn family Rohr from Chicago / Illinois and its youngest sprout Ernie John jun. was brought in, already overwhelming this year!
In addition to the invitation of the mayor of Freyburg to come back to Germany for the 100^th Jahnturnfest anniversary in 2022, the Rohrs also received a special offer from the USA these days:

* To open a American Turners Museum in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, on the premises of the "International Gymnastics Trainingscamp" run by the German-born Bruno & Brent Klaus family, who are among the "New York Turners" founded more than 100 years ago by German immigrants ,
Already in May 2020 this museum will be opened, in which gymnast Jahn will also play a central role!

These are already such important international lines, which are the sport own, and go beyond the pursuit of fame, medals or performance thinking.
